Burning DVD memory error

DoWarchives wrote on 10/16/2013, 10:48 AM

Hi, I have used Movie Edit Pro 17 to create a film which I exported as a .mpg file and it plays beautifully. I have now been asked whether I could burn DVDs of this film to give to a few people. I would like to do this with the menu options available. However, when I go to burn a DVD I get the message 'Could not create temporary file, memory error'.  I have attempted this several times to no avail. I have ensured not to have any other programmes open. I am running Windows Vista and have sufficient space on my harddisc. I have used new blank DVD+RW cds. I have also had our IT support take a look, but they thought it might be a programming problem. Is there anything I can do to make this work as having the DVD menu would give it a very professional touch? Thanks for any suggestions.

For those who understand it, the file log is as follows:

Hi,

Magix MEP supports only a limited range of DVD drives and it looks like yours isn't one of them.

I never burn from MEP. When the message appears asking me to insert a disc, I click Cancel (and then Close, to tidy up the screen). The DVD MEP should have written is in the location specified under the Folder tab of Program settings.

I check that it plays OK (I use VLC) and then burn it with a versatile and reliable burner such as ImgBurn.

Hi

AFAICS you have two problems - from the logs:-

     1.   . . . . :Unsupported Sparable Partition Map in UDF Logical Volume Descriptor . . . .  illegal log. or phys. disc format !!! . . . .

The disc type you are using is either not compatible with your DVD writer - because the DVD writer does not have that disc type settings available in its firmware or they are bad discs.

Have you tried a different brand of discs?

     2.  . . . . . cannot create dp4 script file . . . . cannot create tempfile . . . out of memory. . .

You do not have enough memory in the laptop and / or the hard drive is very nearly full - see below.

Is this video about 1 hour long?

IIRC you need at least 8 - 10 GB of free disc space per hour of video, to render and create the DVD structure before burning.

HTH

John

Thanks for both of your comments.

I have checked again and the hardrive has more than 11 GB free space and the film is no longer than 40 mins so in theory there should be enough space.

How would I know what disc types are compatible with my DVD writer? I tried 2 kinds of DVD+RWs but made no difference.

As to Terry's suggestion, unfortunately I cannot do that as the error message pops up as soon as I click 'burn' so I don't get to the stage 'insert disc'.

I might just have to do without a menu option and find another way of burning film to DVD.

Agreed their should be enough free space on the hard drive.

Try changing the DVD menu template to another one eg Red Smoke and try to burn again.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have now tried changing the menu templates to see whether it will burn but still getting memory error message. I have created even more free space (17 GB) by tidying up the harddrive so I don't understand this.

1. To remove any ambiguity, can you spell out exactly what steps you are taking to burn the DVD and the result at each stage. Provide full detail. A couple of screenshots might help too, directly before and after the error message appears.

2. Have you successfully burned DVDs before?

3. What files, if any, are in the image folder I suggested?
