Camera/Zoom shot key framing greyed out

Kraznet wrote on 5/4/2023, 8:41 AM

Hi there,

I used to be able to use key framing to zoom in and out from the effects menu Camera/Zoom shot but the key framing timeline is greyed out. This was a major part of my workflow. Is this deliberate or is it a bug? I'm using the latest version of Pro X14.

Hi,

No bug. You have to click on something to turn on the effect, like a direction or Zoom (from/to section). Then the effect will turn on in the bottom window.

Another way is to first go to Size/Position/Rotation, click on Apply effect, then go to CZS and the effect will be at the bottom.

Hi,

I think that it changed with the new Size/Position/Rotation and having to hit Apply Effect to turn it on, similar to most, if not all, OFX. Thus, CZS needed some way to apply the SPR effect to kick off the effect.

It might not be a bug but it is very annoying. Since there is no "Apply" button, the keyframe control panel should activate immediately, like it used to in previous versions. Unintended consequence of not thinking revisions through, methinks.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. Yes. Magix should add Apply Effect to CZS if SPR has not been activated for the object. It is not obvious what has to be done. And, we still have the motion tracking problem - no keyframes. There are probably a few other issues, like maybe with the template effects.

Magix have really messed up regarding adding keyframes for camera/zoom/shot. It used to work perfectly fine and keyframes were always active. Now I need to go to size/position/rotation in order to activate them and then go back to camera/zoom/shot. But the problem is if you need to split the video object the chances are the key frames will be greyed out again and you have to go back up to size/position/rotation in order for them to become active again! It's a complete work flow killer. They've made a simple task completely awkward. I made a video showing the problem.

Hi Martin,

In CZS, nothing happens until you do something. The dashed rectangle is waiting in the Preview Monitor for you to do something. As soon as you do, you get SPR in the keyframe area and a keyframe. Also, clicking on a direction arrow or From or To will add SPR to the keyframe area.

After you split the clip, SPR is still showing in the keyframe area when you're in CZS. Just click on the SPR in the keyframe area and it will be active. No need to actually go to SPR to Apply Effect.

@Kraznet Hi, I agree that the keyframes controls should be already available but I think you're over complicating it a bit,

You're going to C/Z to zoom or something like that, so click on one of the boxes, that will add keyframes & then click on the SPR that is at the head of the keyframe timeline, the keyframe controls then become active.

If you do go to a different clip/event then back to the orig with C/Z yes they are greyed out but any alteration of the selection in the preview monitor auto creates a new keyframe & it's not hard to just click on SPR at the head of the keyframes if you want to delete or cop one ..

I filmed this in MMS because VPX playback is 💩 when screen recording with Vegas capture or Nvidia Geforce but for some reason MMS is fine 🤷‍♂️

this clicking of the SPR keyframe block is an extra step and a nuisance. If htere isn't a good reason, it must be a bug (especially considering the problems we've had Section and CZS since Magix merged rotation into Size and position. Call me cynical but I think it's either a balls-up or someone who doesn't use the feature decided it wasn't necessary.

Hi Al,

When clicking away from the CZS effect and losing focus on SPR in the keyframe area, as soon as one clicks on CZS again, SPR should light up automatically, as you say, just like it does when clicking back onto the SPR effect.

It's probably an oversight, lost in the changes to SPR.

I think that we should raise this with Magix.

To reactivate an old subject I've been trying to do key framing for zooming and it's a nightmare. If anyone thinks this new method is logical that you're a better man than I. The add keyframe and copy and paste buttons are sometimes active and other times they are greyed out depending on what object you have selected. This used to work perfectly until they changed things. It's really messed up my workflow and slowed things down 🙁.

Yes, it's a mess. Essentially, you need to activate SizePositionRotation on the object first, then the keyframe panel for CZS will be available. Secondly, when you export, de-select any objects that you've applied the CZS to. If they are highlighted, CZS is ignored.

Magix is aware of this bug.

The implementation of the new SPR effect has been a shambles.
