Hi.

As you may have noticed with using the graphic equaliser, when you cut any frequency it not only effects the sound you wish to cut but it also affects the sounds you are trying to hear clearer. It is the same with any program that can cut unwanted sounds from an audio recording but it goes about it in a different way. Anything in the same frequency range it cuts out will also go missing and results in a slightly robotic sound which gets worse as you cut more into those frequency areas. Most such programs at present are based around cutting out specific instruments as apposed to unwanted background sounds, or things that are relatively constants, like a mains hum or wind noise with the included presets, but altering those parameters yourself is not possible as they rely on sound samples of the noises on their own to use as samples of what to remove. There is such a minimal system built into the sound tools within MMS.

To get to it to try it out, just double click on any sound object.

There is a section for use of custom sounds but will need a selected sound sample section.

Ray.

It can be done, but the software costs money.

All you have to do is watch the first minute and can see what it can do. And this was 2 years ago. There are people creating stems of a drum kit. The drummer is playing the drums, and they isolated each part of the kit. Wow.

Hi.

MMS and VPX do not support vst3 unless you wish to use it in Stand alone mode which would mean having to sync the audio back into the video.

You would need a supporting host program like Vegas Pro to use within an NLE video editor.

I would really recommend using the trial before buying and at least look at the various tutorials as you still need clean samples to work with and process for best results.

Ray.

Hi,

To get rid of or reduce the sound of a dog barking and car passing, you would need sophisticated software like Steinberg SpectraLayers or iZotope RX. You can read up on this here for iZotope.

You may have received some iZotope plugins with some versions of Movie Studio/Movie Edit Pro. Check through your files for RX 7 Voice De-noise or iZRX7VoiceDenoiser. A voice denoiser plugin should help reduce background noise from dialogue.

Both have products that can separate sound into various layers. I have SpectraLayers 11, full version, and can separate background noise from voices, as well as different voices, onto separate tracks. Then, I can create the mix that I want, like removing some parts, lowering background noise, getting rid of the voice of someone who was talking in the background, etc. The spectral editing is great for intermittent noises, like a door slamming, clicks, and other sudden noises.

Of course, these tools come at a cost.

Some of us managed to get Accusonus 6 tools when they were made available for free. The ERA6 NoiseRemoverPro could also probably remove or reduce the background noise, like the dog and car. I just found out that you can download there here. Get them before they disappear. Hmmm. I just noticed that I have version 6.1.0, so I'm now downloading version 6.2.00 (Windows version) from the link.

You can add Accusonus VST's in Settings, Folders, at the bottom. Then use the Mixer, FX on the track to add the effect.

@browj2 thanks for the link!

Also, there is "sticker shock" with looking at the prices of iZotope and SpectraLayers for sure.

Hi,

Here is a link to another page in iZotope for cleaning up audio and removing background noise. Well worth reading.

@Reyfox

I got SpectraLayers Elements with SF Audio Cleaning Lab 4 for a very low cost. Unfortunately, the ARA plugin didn't work properly, but the standalone did, and Magix stopped all work on this most excellent product, leaving it with a few very annoying, but not serious bugs. Since ACL is actually a subset of Samplitude, Magix sold it off to Boris, who probably doesn't realize what they have.

I then got SpectraLayers Pro 10 with Samplitude Pro X8 Suite, again at a relatively low cost. Steinberg then gave everyone a free upgrade to version 11.

I see that the upgrade price is 390USD - too rich me, and new is 506USD. However, you can get Sound Forge Pro 18 Suite for 149USD upgrade, 240USD new. It includes SpectraLayers Pro 11 but Steinberg actually gives you 12, so this is one way to avoid paying so much for SpectraLayers new or upgade.

@browj2 thanks for the heads up on Soundforge Suite. I can upgrade to SLP for $178 from my old copy of SLP, but even then, for the amount of times I would use it, not worth the cost. I have e friend who has a recording studio in Belgium I could send audio to.

It is a nice think to have in your editing toolbox, but it is like the tools I have in my zillion piece toolbox. Some I never use, or can't remember when I did use it last.
