Can't Save Arrangements On Music Maker MX

JB622 wrote on 9/18/2012, 7:39 AM

Hey,

I'm Trying To Do A Song Which Features Sound Files Which I've Imported. But It Says It Cannot Save Because I'm Not The Admin, Though I Am, Or Because It's Write Protected, Which It's Not. Before This Pops Up I Get A Message Saying:

"Cannot Open File:
F:\Music Maker\Sound Effects\Connor Bananas_mp3000.WAV."

Then I'll Delete That And It Will Pick Another File. Then I'll Delete That One... This Will Carry On Until I'm Left The Sound Files That Don't Create The Error Message.

I'm Not Sure Why It Ends With ".WAV." Either As It's An MP3 File? It Also Says It Says It Can't MP3 Files That I've Made Using Music Maker MX (The Same One).
I've Tried Right Clicking -> Run As Admin... But This Doesn't Make A Difference.

Any Ideas???
The MP3 Files Are A Mix Of Music Maker Exports And Sounds Recorded Using Different Devices And Converted Into MP3 Format.
I'm On Windows.
I've Never Had This Problem Before!

Thanks!

Hi,

If the file you want to use is indeed a MP3 file you need to rename the file and there should be no . after the file extension.  So rename 1 file to xyzfile.mp3 and see what happens when you try to import it that way.  Let us know how this works out.

As far as the admin comment goes you need to make sure you are logged on to your system as the admin, not a user account with administrative privelages.

No, Didn't Work! It Did Remove the "_mp3000" part but it's still saying the file ends with ".WAV.". It Says No Where Else Does It End With ".WAV." Only When I Try To Save It?

I've Print Screened Both Pop Ups, Maybe That wIll Help?
As you can see (if the file is bigger then it is while i'm writing this) It Says All The Files Are MP3s Apart From The Arragement Titled "New".

Hi,

Could you email me that 1 file?  I will send you a private message with my email address.

George is already guiding you but I would like to add something. After reading your message/screen shot, I checked the screen shot once I took which looks similar other than file name etc.

Both of the messages as you have showed in your screen shot had appeared in My Music Maker when the program did not read the path of the respective folders such a:s Project/ Import/Export/Recording etc.

Therefore, I will suggest, when Music maker is opened click "P" key to open Program settings then click on Folder tab and check the paths if they are correct.

Note: Before doing above steps please clear Internet browser cookies and history. Doing so some times helps.

If my answer is not helpful then sorry in advance.

Hi Jack,

Here is a video to show you exactly what I did with the file you sent so you can see that it plays just fine on my system.

@Nihon94 I am very glad to have your help with this problem I know computers and files, but you are the Master at Music Maker.  You have far more experince with this application than I do.

Jack,

It is really good that Nihon94 is helping here.  Nihon94 has more experience with this application than anyone else I know of.

Hi,

I just noticed something about the screen shots that you posted on this site as well as the one you sent me via email.  Your files are located on a "F" drive for the two screen shots here on this site, and on a "E" drive on the screen shot you sent me via email.  If the application started before those drives actually connected to your system, then Music Maker may not have recognized the path as Nihon94 mentioned.  Try copying 1 of those files to your "C" drive, re-boot your system, and see if you can import that one file.  This one is actually driving me a little crazy because I know that the file you sent me is definitely .mp3 and it plays and works in music maker on my system.  If it is driving me crazy, it must be 10 times worse for you.

I hate to ask you to do this kind of stuff, but if we get you the answer, it will have been worth the effort.

Hi,

You may or may not know this, but no one here actually works for Magix.  This is just a user forum and we all do what we can to help each other out.  We have no access to special tools or anything like that.  We just have our experience, our knowledge and our desire to help.  So, please have patience.

Right Guys!!!

I'm Aware that no one on here works for Magix and that it's just other users, but i had hoped someone would of had a similar or the same problem and could help.

Back to My Original Question!
I Cleaned the Cache and Whatever else CCleaner wanted to clean.
Copied all the files and pasted them in my C drive.
Turned my PC off.
Gave it a few minutes.
Switched it back on.
Reopened Music Maker.
Tried to save with one of the files from the C drive on there, but no luck.
Continued to do what you both said, pressing P and changing the file locations.
Once again imported a sound I wanted.
Clicked Save and It Worked!!!!

So it must have been the Folder Locations (I use a portable harddrive which I can only assume in plugged into the other USB connector) causing the problem!

Thank you both for the help! You were very much appreciated in such a stressful time!

- Jack

Hi Jack

'....I use a portable harddrive ....'

Was this drive formatted in a different computer or different Windows version and you are using Windows 7? - if so this could be the problem and need to reset the permissions with your computer - better still, if possible, reformat the drive with your computer used for editing.

John
