Can't shutdown Video Pro X - have to kill it with task manager

Niels-Srensen wrote on 8/3/2021, 8:55 AM

I recently bought a renewal subscription for my Video Pro X and have the version 19.0.1.117 (UDP3) installed.
My problem is, that I simply can't shut down the program using the Exit/Quit function or Alt-F4.
It's not frozen and I can shutdown the active project but not the program itself.
Therefore I have to set some program settings every time I start the program and it can't remember recent projects.

What can be the problem - everything is updated on my Window 10 machine.

@Niels-Srensen

Have you tried closing it by clicking the red X in the top right corner of the screen? If you have, and the problem still persists, how long are you waiting after attempting to close the app before using Task Manager to force-close it?

Sometimes Magix apps do not immediately close because some level of "housekeeping" is necessary before the app can be fully closed. In such circumstances, it will, eventually, close though it can take as long as 30 minutes. I have experienced this especially with Music Maker though not, I think, with VPX.

Thanks Jeff, I will try to test it out by clicking in the "cross" and waiting longer. I can shut down immediately if I don't have my project open. After that, the arrangement window is cleaned but the Project Folder window is still filled with data and nothing really happens. CPU consumption is nearly zero. It's like if something in the file system is hanging or a driver is not relased correctly.

I have exactly the same symptom. I can't shut down or exit.. Using X on the window doesn't kill it, using file/exit doesn't kill it and using Alt/F4 doesn't either. It simply sits there quietly ignoring my attempts to shut it down. I have to use task manager to kill it.. I can see it still has the original video file hangin in there. It appears it can't close it down for some reason..

I'm rolling back to 12.. This version 13 isn't working for me.. When I load existing projects it shows the project fine in the timeline with all titles.. It plays it fine with the titles, but when I export to mp4 all the titles are missing. If a add a title or delete and re-add it, it comes through in the export. This version seems not fit for purpose..

Just an update on the closing problem. After some testing I've discovered that if the *.mvp file is just over 1,000Kb you can't exit the program. Anything under 1,000 Kb size will allow you to exit fine.

I've reported this to Magix support and they came back telling me they are aware of the issue and plan to implement a fix..

@simmiv

I have also experienced the failure to shut down properly in VPX 13. But I can't confirm your finding about the size of the .mvp file being a contributory factor, sorry. For me, it can happen (or not) with almost any size of project file.

However, as you say, Support have acknowledged this is a problem, though apparently for only a small number of users!

I have had similar problems with MEP 2022. For the though it seems connected to using the size position effect or having used the old stabilization effect now missing in the new program.
