can't upgrade mm premium from 18.02 to 18.03

scally6 wrote on 5/23/2012, 8:33 AM

win7 64bit 4gig ram quad core i3.  mm premium download 18.0.0.42 version. Have installed soundbanks etc. ok but the about/update link shows there to be a newer version. This appears to download OK but then nothing happens. two magix rebooter processes show in task manager but are not operating. Tried rebooting, running prog as admin - same result. Closing & restarting mm shows it to be still at the previous version.

Please follow these steps:

1. Clear Browser History/Cookies etc

In case of Microsoft Internet Explorer(Tools/Internet Options/

Firefox, (Tools/Clear Recent History)

2. Start Music Maker check the version, if it is still older then update once again.

3. After updating re-start computer.

I hope this might solve your problem.

Thanks for the reply but it didn't help.  To be more specific about what's happening, the file seems to download (but where to?) and then a message box with MX autoupdate_u_en in the title bar with "a new program update is available" and an OK button. Clicking the OK button results in a win7 timer for about 10 secs which then disappears and (even leaving it like that for over an hour) nothing else happens.

In task manager processes are:  magixofa.exe*32 & magixrestart.exe*32 but they dont use any cpu cycles at all.

I've tried rebooting, closing down & killing power then restarting, and even forcing a reboot without closing MM after the download & still the version is stuck on 18.0.0.42.

There doesn't seem to be anything relevant in the windows event manager.

does this mean you do not know where the downloaded files are?

If you are aware of file name, in the run command type that and enter, if there is a file on computer you will know the place.

After reading details about your problem I think it would be much better if you could ask Magix customer support for more help. Also in the meantime may be someone here will also answer you.

yeah, I left a message for customer support but havent heard zilch. I tried it in safemode but it failed and said msie wasn't registerd properly so i unreged it & re-reged it but no difference. I suspect I'm gonna go back to band in a box & write this software off.

Sorry to know about your problem.

Solved - Cold reStart into safemode, run MM & download update. ( file downloads in win7 to %user%/appdata/local/temp/mxupdater.exe.) Don't run it at this stage.

Reboot to normal, run file above & it works.

I suspect its something to do with win7 64bit not liking the program updater.

Congratulations, and thank you for being one of the extremely rare people who actually come back and share the things that they've learned!  You are a prince among men.

I'm just curious though....what have you actually gained after all the worry and fuss?  I would imagine some of these updated versions are only to make corrections for problems you may not even have (e.g. different OS, different hardware/drivers, etc.)

Yeah, youre right there doesn't seem to be any difference - leastways - I've not noticed one. I just got bugged by the fact that it wouldn't update and I hate computers beating me    . Sometimes issues like this one are because of a problem with the os rather than the particular software that won't play. I've found in the past that if I just put up with something not working how it should, for an easier life or because it might make no difference right now, some time down the road it comes back and bites ya on the bum. ...   Can I have the nerd of the day award, now LOL
