Can you hyperlink between pages (e-book indexing purposes)?

George-Atkins wrote on 6/3/2021, 3:33 AM

Hi all - a little help, if anybody knows how to do this...I'm creating an e-book and want to insert an index with a list of contents at the start, with each topic linking or hyperlinking to the relevant page or pages in the document when clicked. I then want export as a pdf with these links intact.

Can it be done, and if so, how?

Thanks!

Hi

AFAICS this is not do-able in XPGD.

If you have Xara Designer Pro use this as it has the features you need - ie links and anchors.

If you do not have Designer pro then, any text editor that lets you add links and anchors would do, eg Microsoft Word and save to PDF using the Microsoft print to PDF 'printer'.

If you do not already do so, Iwould also recommend that you keep a list of the anchors and their names, as you create them, for reference when you create the index page.

I just discovered the answer...it IS possible in P&G D standard.

1. Highlight a line of text / word in your P&G project

2. Choose Utilities from top menu, then Web link.

3. Choose Link to, pick a page and Apply

For the pdf exporting part, using the correct version for compatibility keeps the link intact. You need to choose custom settings, advanced, and change the version from default (it was set to 2001 for me), to version 8 (or whatever is showing as latest). Then the pdf will retain the ability to jump to sections from the links created in P&G D.

Pretty cool ;-)
