Here is the response I received from Magix. This resolved my issue;

This would appear to be a problem with the
program not being able to go online and connect to our servers for the product
activation.
If you've already tried to rule out conflicts with the local security related
software on the computer, this online connectivity problem might be due to
disabled protocols in your Windows/Internet Explorer settings.

Our program uses the Internet Explorer API for the online communication
modules. Therefore, this is relevant to our program's functionality, as well as
your general system functionality and security. You will need to manually
adjust something in the Windows/IE Internet settings. Please go to the system's
Control Panel and proceed to "Internet Options". Switch to the
"Advanced" tab and find the "Security" section in the long
list of checkboxes. Among other things you will find entries for the different
Internet communication protocols here.

Please check whether the options TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 are ticked. If
that is not the case, please enable/tick these options and confirm your
settings. Then try again with our program. If the problem persists, please send
a screenshot of the dialogue described here, showing the relevant TSL protocol settings.
Thanks.

If you're still not getting on with the activation, there's one more aspect we
have discovered that seems to have helped in such a situation: A crucial
operating system service that should be running by default had been disabled.
In order to check this, please bring up the Windows "Computer
Management", e.g. by opening the Windows Start menu, right-clicking on
"Computer" and choosing "Manage". In the Computer
Management screen, navigate to the "Services and Applications"
section on the left-hand side and proceed to the "Services" sub
section. Find the "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" in the
alphabetic list of services and check whether the status for this service is
"started". If not, right-click on this entry and start/resume it.
Then try the program activation again.

I received yesterday the identical response from Magix as I, too, am experiencing the "online connection" (failure of) problem when trying to activate. However, I am trying to activate MEP 2015 Plus on a Windows XP box and XP does not provide options for TLS 1.1 or TLS 1.2 in the security section.

I have activated successfully in the past on the same PC, but maybe the Magix validation server now insists on a higher level of security than XP can provide.

@LittleTyke

Welcome to the Magix forums.

To criticise Magix, as you did in your other post, for using an encryption method which is not available for users of Windows XP seems a little "strange", IMO, given that XP has been "out of support" (by Microsoft) for some time now. Software manufacturers have a duty to ALL their customers to maintain a level of security at least in line with the latest operating systems.

I realise this is NOT what you want to hear but I think you really do need to consider upgrading your XP system if you wish to maintain a fully-functional, safe computing experience.

I have activated MEP 2015 Plus successfully several times in the past on the same XP PC. It would be very easy for Magix to retain customer loyalty (4 years in my case) by relaxing the security requirement for older computers purely for activation purposes. Or provide an option to activate offline.

It would be cheaper to purchase a different video editor with less Draconian DRM enforcement than to buy a new PC, which would cost at least £500. MEP 2015 Plus cost £29.95 new from Amazon. Maybe I'll look at open source offerings instead, which are vastly improved than they once were. Wondershare Filmora, for example, which is supported on XP.

Hi

From you other post here - which has been closed

. . . . My MEP 2015 Plus will not activate on a Windows XP PC any more. . . . . I checked the SSL/TLS options in the Security section. Note that on XP there is NO option for TLS 1.1 or TLS 1.2. . . . .

The issue you are having is because you are still on Windows XP, which as you have been advised before is obsolete and insecure.

Until such time as you upgrade the OS to a modern version of Windows, which supports the modern more secure communications protocols necessary, the situation will not improve.

Complaining about DRM rights etc is neither helpful or productive to other users when you are running an outdated and insecure OS. Regular licence checking is now a common occurrence with a lot of software, in the fight against software piracy and secure communications protocols are a necessity.

Added:

. . . . Or provide an option to activate offline . . . .

There is and you need - quote from the manual:- 'an adequate text editing program is installed and activated (for example, MS Word)'.

The link appears in the activation dialog to access this. If the link is not there then it is possible that since you originally activated on-line, this link is no longer available.
