cannot rotate video

Darrell-Brautigam wrote on 1/27/2022, 2:47 PM

Re: Movie Edit Pro 2014 Plus on Windows 10 - Video will not rotate. I hit "Effects," "video object effects," "movement effects." and "rotation/mirroring" but the rotation window does not pop up. I have "Repaired" the installation and uninstalled/re-installed software but no rotation screen appears. What's going on?

Thanks, Darrell B

Hi

. . . . but the rotation window does not pop up . . . .

If you mean:

  1. It looks like in the image below

Select the video object to be rotated before or after selecting the effect.

    OR

  2. It does not show at all.

Try resetting the program to its default settings - File, Settings, Reset program settings to default

Note this will reset any customisations you have made eg Folder paths etc.

Thanks for the suggestion. I re-set to default. It still didn't work I get no pop-up screen at all when I hit rotation/mirroring. Is a file missing? I've re-installed it already.

Hi,

There is no pop-up screen. Did you select an image or video object on the timeline? If not, then what shows will be what John EB shows. If so, then give us a screen shot showing all windows showing the selected object on the timeline, the preview monitor, along with Rotation/Mirror selected under Effects.

I thought I had the object selected. Now I have re-installed the program twice today from a direct download, re-booted and both times Error code 5 comes up and says the installation folder is damaged and the program cannot be opened.

When something doesn't work right or you don't know how something works, do not reinstall the program. Try to find out why first. Reinstallation is a last resort and is usually just makes things worse, which, for you, it has done.

I expect that John EB will help you get the program properly uninstalled.

Thanks for the advice. I did a repair operation first before re-installing. Thought maybe I had a corrupted file.
Thanks again

Hi

. . . . Error code 5  . . . .

This error code for Movie Edit Pro is a new one to me, it is a valid error code for Vegas products.

The screenshot @browj2 requested showing all windows showing the selected object on the timeline, the preview monitor, along with Rotation/Mirror selected under Effects may help.

A screenshot of the error message would also help

What antivirus program are you using?

I re-installed program. Now it opens with no error code. However, the Rotation/Mirror drop down does not happen. When I click it, the work space is all that is showing. I have the object (clip) highlighted too.

I use Windows Defender for AV.

Hi Darrell,

Please show the screen shot that I asked for.

Most of us don't have MEP2014 anymore, so it's tough to check.

I don’t do much video editing anymore, so haven’t seen fit to update to newer software. This is first time I have needed to rotate scene (from iPhone video that someone shot vertically and MEPro automatically makes it a horizontal format). When clicking on rotate/mirror it goes back to this screen:

@Darrell-Brautigam

Hi,

Glad to see that you've got it up and running.

It looks to me like MEP does not like your iPhone video clips - newer CODEC or something.

Try loading the demo project and selecting a video clip and the rotation effect to see if it works. If so, then it's your iPhone file that is the problem with old software.

@Darrell-Brautigam 'When clicking on rotate/mirror it goes back to this screen:' can you show the screen before you click rotate? & you do have the Media Pool window ticked?

FYI: I installed iMovie app on iPhone and rotated video clip. Then I copied it to pc. I opened it in MEP and it accepted the clip in this format. Problem solved.

Thanks again for everybody’s help
