Caturing video from my Canon HV30 generally works in DV-mode but not in HDV-mode. Message "Can´t find device." I have Firewirecard (Via 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller). I also have microsoft DiretX8a installed. I tied Microsoft Firewire 1394 OHCI Legacy Driver. No difference. ?????

To which program and build version are you referring to?
I was under the impression that Direct X9.1 or higher was required by later products.

In my recent experience, MEP's HDV capture is broken. I suggest you capture your HDV with HDVSplit, for which I have written a tutorial:

After you've captured your tape, which will appear as M2T files, you can simply import them into MEP in the usual way.

Also make sure you try a tape that has only HDV on it and not a mixture of DV and HDV.
