Captured video has double the frame rate and horrible audio/video sync in MEP

MAGIX Movie Edit Pro MX Plus Download Version
Version: 11.0.6.4 (UDC2)

Just captured an episode of The Originals onto the HD.  ArcSoft can play it fine, even Windows Media Player can display it without a glitch, but Magix has it way out of sync.

A normal capture for me would be 12.9 Mbps, 1280*720 (16:9) @ 29.970 fps.

Audio: 384 Kbps 48.0 KHz 16 bits 6-channel AC-3

This Originals has a frame rate of 59.940.

Magix asked me if I wanted to adjust my settings from the default 1920 x 1080  16:9   29.97 and I clicked Adjust.  Did I do wrong?

Hi

It should not change the speed of playback. That prompt is there more to set a target frame rate to simulate the look for the export.

What happens if you click ignore (or continue)?

You might fix the problem by Rt. clicking the video track and choosing " Create (new) frame table" just after import.

Thanks for replying, Scene.

I neglected to mention that I had already tried a repair install of Magix, but I went ahead and did it again anyway, sent everything back to default, and even recaptured the video, even though it was playing fine on two different computers using the above-mentioned players.

Weird, but somehow after all that I didn't even get the prompt to adjust any more, and the video acted normally with no sync problems or appearing to be running in fast mode (which I'm guessing is what you were alluding to).  Now that you mention it, their mouths did seem to be moving awfully fast....

Above, I said "normal" for me was 1280*720.  That pertains to this capture instance only.  Normally they are 1920 x 1080 off the air, even before Magix gets to look at them.

Anyway, once I erased the project folder and started fresh with a new capture copy of the program, Magix copied the video to the project folder as 1080*720 2-channel 29.97 fps, and that without even telling me it was doing so, or prompting in any way.

I guess I should let well enough alone, since before the program was off center in the display monitor.  Still, it would be nice to be able to understand what went on here.

Much appreciated, Scene.

EDIT:

Correction.  Magix copied the program to the project folder in original form (1280*720 @ 59.940 6-channel) but when importing it into the project the Object Properties now show to be 1920*1080  (16:9) 2-channel.  Go figure, right?

Hi Arthur

That is weird - the properties should reflect the original specs. of the video material although the soundtrack gets converted to 2 channel once loaded on the timeline.

Just another bug, I guess.  Speaking of weird, what business does Magix have of downgrading my audio to 2-channel anyway?

And what is this business of 32 tracks of audio in Project/movie settings?

When this thing works it works well, but it can be downright maddening sometimes.

Whoa! Easy Arthur........

Nothing is destroyed, the 6 channels are still there - you just need to Rt click in the audio track and Display or Extract the other channels. I guess it is done this way because they figure the majority of users do not carry 5.1 through to the export, so this saves space on the timeline and CPU resources in the preview. I usually keep the project in 2 channel and display or edit the 6 channels after I have done all the picture and effects editing.

The 32 tracks relate to total tracks available in the arranger (timeline), not soundtracks specifically.

Whoa ir right.  LOL  Guess I get a bit gun shy around this thing.  Had I stopped to think I would have remembered that I have had plenty of stuff that played just fine on a 5.1 sound system once burned onto discs.

Speaking of sound editing, what is it you do, if that isn't asking something too involved for here...?

I noticed that an mp4 shows the audio wave form, but m2ts has nothing showing.  Viewing the wave form makes it a lot easier to cut or fade at the exact spot before a particular sound or noise.  Is it possible to view the wave form of other formats other than mp4?
