change interface colour

Hi.

Is it possible to change the colour or shade of the interface background in MEP 2019.

I am not at all keen on the very dark stuff that has become fashionable with edit software designers in the last few years.

I have searched the forum but it seems the last referance to this was in 2012 when it was not possible to change it.

The darker colour has nothing to do with 'fashion', it is for the reduction of eye strain for 'regular computer users', AFAIK not yet a legal requirement, however in the 'I will sue culture' a necessity for software companies to protect themselves.

I will try your tips John thanks. Not sure though I can buy in to the idea that software companies are concerned about litigation in this instance, or that they lay awake at night worrying about our eyesight. many software applications do not use black backgrounds, Do they worry?

I am afraid being an old cynic that I think software designers go for a look that will appeal best to the masses.

Hi Richard.

I think we are all cynical when dealing with any company and their marketing strategies. I have a black background running on Win 10 but I'm in a room with no windows. Still a choice of contrast at least would be good or a choice of lettering colour for the tracks. I don't know what is available in other video editors now but in the past (2009) it was never that good on the other one I tried for a short period.

About 15 years ago, MEP came out with a light grey background. We revolted so hard that it quickly went back to dark (or they put a dark option back in). I can tell you, the light option was appalling to use.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

For years I have used a brilliant editor by Serif. It is now defunct.

It has a mainly white background. I suppose I am looking for a similar look.

I am pretty sure there was a version after the version Al mentioned where you could choose light or dark in the Program settings. May have been MEP14 Plus.
