Changing .mov to .mvd for editing purposes

I have a Canon powershot sx130is digital camera.When I download my videos to my windows 7 pc they are in .mov format.I am sure I used to be able to import them into Magix Edit Pro14 Plus and edit them.I cannot do this anymore. I realise Magix uses .mvd files extensions. I have looked at various format changing programs but none list .mvd, only avi mpeg bluray etc. Any information would be much appreciated.Thank You.

Hi,

First make sure you have the latest version of QuickTime on your PC.  If you still can't see or edit the files, convert them to either .avi or .mpeg4  the .avi bit rates and compression create pretty large files while .mpeg4 files are smaller and usually render much faster.

A further note for your information: The .MVD and .MVP extensions are for Magix project files -- they are not video formats at all. The project files list what resources (clips, images, audio etc) are being used, exactly what parts are used and when on the timeline (so you can change the order of things if you want), and all the added effects (transitions, cropping, key framing, titles etc).

Thanks very much for the information.I did all that you suggested which worked fine.I eventually found that my programs for running movie file formats in "associations" were all set to VLC. Once I had changed them to be opened with Quicktime and Magix they worked fine. I had a very enjoyable time changing files to mpeg4 and other formats and learnt a lot of new things.Thanks very much again.
