Chapter thumbnails are incorrect.

This is a first for me. I have made a couple hundred DVDs using MEP+ 17 and never had this occur. In the chapter menus on the DVD menu, the thumbnails for each chapter, on the first page of chapter menus, are wrong. Rather than the thumbnails being different for each of the thumbnails, I am getting 2 images repeated over and over, rather than the 8 or 16 context sensitive thumbnails it used to make. The second page and beyond are correct.

To add to the confusion, when I preview the menus on screen, they are correct. It isn't until the DVD is rendered that it makes it wrong.

The only difference from previous DVDs I have made is that I started using the huffyuv avi compression codec to capture my VHS home movies. Could the huffyuv avi codec cause this type of problem? I have the codec installed both on the machine I have been using for capturing and on the one that I have MEP+17 on.

I have tried to fix the problem by restarting the computer, starting over as a new project, I've tried choosing different chapter points and differing #'s of chapters, I've tried several different templates-including the one I normally use, and I have tried changing the thumbnail manually on each chapter.

Does anyone know what this problem could be? Ever had a similar problem?

Thanks

I have previously used the same codec on a DVD I created in MEP+17. (The one prior to this one.) It was fine. I would like to continue using the codec because it is a lossless compressed AVI.

I don't know why or what I did precisely, but I finally got the thumbnails to show up correctly on all pages of the chapter menus. I tried first to change the layout on the chapter menus and that did not work. I tried deleting the chapters and creating new ones and that did not work. I tried changing the frequency of the chapter points and that did not work. I changed the template to a different template and that did not work. I tried starting over with a new project again, and that did not work. Finally, I closed the program again, reopened the 2nd progect-try and it just worked. I can't figure out why. That does not make sense to me.

But that brings me to another question based on your answer. How do I go about reinstalling to refresh the program? Is there a utility for that? Just download it again and uninstall/reinstall? I use another program, too, that has a utility that reloads and reinstalls all the relevant dll's and exe's, but I do not see any place for that in MEP

Thanks for your help!

Just a shot in the dark here, so you won't feel ignored.  Maybe someone else will jump in here after a bit...

Since you feel it's the new codec I'd start there.  First of all, do you absolutely need this one?  I wonder if MEP never heard of it.  Still, you could attempt a repair install with the codec already installed and see if MEP picks up on it.  (I've come to feel that a repair install is of vital importance to do frequently anyway, but that is another matter.)

If you went with the camera's default codec would that help?

But I would definitely go with a repair install first and see if that helps...

I assume you have the program's install file saved to HD.  If not, it's a swell idea.

Just click on it and it will ask you if you want to repair or remove.

Watch how much better the program bahaves after that.  LOL

Hi,

Did you read this sticky?
http://www.magix.info/uk/please-do-the-following-before-posting-your-question.forum.621831.html

In particular, a screenshot or two would help us to grasp your problem.

Also, make a small project exhibiting the problem and use File > Backup > Copy project and media into a folder, zip it up and upload it so that we can see what you mean. If it's very large use a free Dropbox account.
