Choppy playback

Computer specs:-

Windows 10 Home

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz

16GB Ram

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060

Video Pro X13 - Version 19.0.1.138

I have a problem that when I play a 4K clip on the timeline, the playback is "Choppy" and stutters. This clip was recorded with a Panasonic HC-X1000 camera (which I have completed 100's of video with) Clip specs = 3840x2160 50p 8Bit 4:2:0 color sample- total bit rate = 150522 kbps The stuttering occurs with older known good clips and with new recorded clips

Also on the same timeline I have a 4K clip recorded with a GoPro Hero 9 Clip specs = 3840x2160 50p 8Bit 4:2:0 color sample - total bit rate = 100319 kbps This clip plays perfectly on the same timeline.

I can also play HD clips perfectly on the timeline.

Also, when the same clips are played in the "Source" window they play perfectly, but when played on the timeline they stutter.

I have noticed that when task manager is running (Performance / GPU / Video Decode) while timeline is playing, it shows the Gopro clips causing 30% utilization but when the Panasonic clip is played utilization is about 70% I have checked my graphics card driver and it is the latest version (511.23)

I am not sure that this is a Magix problem as the Gopro clips play fine, please can anyone help ?

Cheers Bob

Hi Bob

. . . . 3840x2160 50p 8Bit 4:2:0 color sample- total bit rate = 150522 kbps . . . .

This is the probable cause of the stuttering - 4K UHD will put a strain on the PC for real time playback in VPX, more so when you add in any effects applied to the video clips.

The 150 Mbps bitrate for the Panasonic clips does not help as you can see from the Task Manager data.

Assuming that the Program settings, Device options tab, Import, Processing and Export options are all set to the RTX 3080, is the lightning symbol bottom right of the Program monitor blue? If not turn it on - this will help as it reduces the resolution and framerate to give smootheer playback, it will of course reduce the quality of the image however this is only for playback, exports are not affected by it.

Hi John

Yes, my Device options are all set to my GPU

But, the lightning symbol was off and no options were ticked. I have now turned this on and tried ticking the different options. I found that ticking "Use proxy objects" works perfectly thank you.

I did also have trouble with using Multi Cam, but I will try the remaining settings if I need too when I next use it.

I am puzzled that I have never had to touch this setting before, not even with my previous graphics card (Asus GTX 760) but this solution works...

I am very much obliged for your very prompt response and help.

Very best wishes

Bob
