I've got a video and cut out two small clips of approximately three seconds length. In the original video between them there is also material for about 5 seconds. Is there an elegant way to get this third missing clip which is between the two clips I have? Of course I can try to fiddle it manually. But this is big pain. I want to software for me to do it precisely.

Assuming the 5 sec clip is already on the timeline then manually inserting it into the correct place using the different mouse modes is, IMHO, the quickest way to do this - see the video clip below.
Note do switch the mouse mode to Single object after closing the gap (not shown in the clip) and then apply any transitions you need.

@johnebaker Thanks for your quick answer. My problem is of a different kind. You assumed I have the clip already on the timeline. But I do not have. And that's the problem. I only have the original video and what to get precisely the gap between the two clips of the original video I already have.
Let's make an concrete example: My original video is 100 frames long. clip1 is frame 13-33 of my original video. clip2 is frame 53-80 of my original video. Now I want the software to give me the gap, i.e. a clip of frame 34-52.
@browj2 Thanks for your answer and your videos. I watched both of them completely and learnt a few new things. I always used onther way to import videos: I had them on my windows explorer and simply draged them into the timeline. After that I used the T hotkey to cut them into my clips and deleted the clips I didn't need. With dragging a clip at the edge I shortend or extended the clips as I whished. Using this method I never saw those start and end markers for my clips. Is there a way to get them shown? You know, I mean those you show in your second video at about 3 minutes.
Nevertheless, I guess that the object trimmer which you show in the end of your second video can help me with my problem. There I can see which frames are missing and get my gap clip. Is that how you would do it as well?
