Hi,

i know everybody has a different camera, some really top of the heap and other consumer stuff, like mine however maybe some help here connecting a ext mic to Camera. Sony FDR AX53.

I have a variety of pro mics such as the 58 or Rhodes and I want to go straight into the camera with it.

I was told I would need an interface so went and bought this, irig but I can't get it to work at all.

I have since plugged the mic straight into the cam with a xlr to mini jack adapter And it seems to work, despite what I was told at first.

Has anyone used this interface or a similar one ?

Hi

. . . . irig but I can't get it to work at all . . . Has anyone used this interface or a similar one ? . . . .

Which Irig device?

Does it provide Phantom power to the mic?

I have not used an interface as I have a Sony ECMXYST1M mic.

Hi,

By shear chance, I came across the iRig PRE XLR interface the other day. My wife had bought it.

The jack is a TRRS, meaning it has 3 rings giving you stereo for mic plus earphones. This is made mainly for cell phones and tablets. I expect that your camera mic input requires a TRS, 2-ring, jack. You will need a TRRS to TRS Cable Adaptor. I purchased one of these from Amazon and also a TRS to TRRS adapter to be able to use my Sony wireless mic with a cell phone.

I have an iRig XLR mic and I just tested it with the iRig PRE (XLR interface) with phantom power. If you use phantom power, make sure the battery is fresh.
