Copy Clip Properties

dbarton wrote on 12/17/2018, 3:51 AM

Greetings,

MEP 2019 Premium

Is there a way to copy clip properties to another clip? I just made some modifications to a title clip and I would like to copy those properties (font type, size, color,etc...) to other title clips. This would be similar to the paintbrush in Microsoft Word that copies text properties to from one text to another. I could just copy the title clip, but it would overwrite the text and I'd have to retype it in.

Thanks,

Don

Hi

. . . . Is there a way to copy clip properties to another clip . . . .

Yes there is - the quickest way is to use the keyboard shortcuts as follows:

  1. select the clip containing the effects you want to copy
  2. press the - (minus) key (next to 0 on the top row of keys on the keyboard)
  3. select the effects you want to copy in the dialog that opens
  4. select the clip or clips* you want to paste the copied effects into
  5. press Shift - (Shift minus key) to paste the effects.

* to select a continuous range of clips select (left click) the first then while holding down the shift key select the last clip

OR

to select different clips left click the first and then while holding down the Ctrl key select the other clips.

You can also save a set of effects if you use them regularly - more information is in the installed PDF manual available under Help.

@johnebaker

Yes but does that work on a title's font, size, colour as the OP asked?

@dbarton, @Scenestealer

My bad should have checked the post after submitting - for some reason lost the second part !!! .

The copy effects does not work for the font/colour/size of the title text - I think this should be a feature request?

. . . . I could just copy the title clip, . . .

That is how I work, however I created the first title clip as required, then copy and paste into the project as required. Changing existing titles is a bit of a pain especially when there are many in the project.

A work around is to copy the existing text into a text file and replace the title clip then copy and paste back from the text file - a bit faster then retyping.

This is simple. Create your titles, change the first one (or any one) to what you want. Select it. On the Title Editing dialogue box, open the popdown menu at the top right. Select either "Apply title settings to all" or "Apply title settings to all the following." Of course, this copies the base font, size, colour, underlining, shadow, etc., but not multiple colours or fonts.

You can also save these parameters using the same menu and then reuse them in other projects.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Saving the title effect will allow the text in the other objects to be preserved, while applying the same properties, but I still find I need to tweak some, but it works.
