.. . . .Have there ever been right click menu commands for audio objects Save audio effects and Copy audio effects, like the video equivalents? . . .
You are not imagining them, they are there in MEP, however you must have the audio and video on separate tracks to access directly by right click, otherwise you have to go through the right click Audio functions option.
Apologies - should have made it more clear that I meant the Save/load options which give you a similar function as copy/paste with the added benefit that you can add multiple audio effects to an audio object, for example, if you use the Denoiser, to remove wind noise, and EQualiser, Dampen footsteps, regularly the combination can be saved as a single effect.
Thanks, understood. My fault. I worded my question inconsistently. The subject was correct but text then potentially confused by using the term 'Save'.
I agree Save/Load is a workable alternative approach. But the video copy/paste facility also allows multiple effects to be selectively chosen. And, its great attraction for me, it can all be done so quickly. Two KB shortcuts and a few mouse clicks to deselect any unwanted effects and then Continue. The alternative is not quite such a no-brainier; it requires a choice of name before the save and then a Load.
Just seems odd that Magix didn't mirror the video feature. But maybe there are technical obstacles I haven't seen.
Got booted out again, but at least I did a copy before trying to post.
There are a few things that you can do.
1. Using the Effects, Audio effects - give an audio object an effect, like a Sharp Filter, with or without a curve. In the keyframe popdown, Copy effects curve. Then select another audio object. If there is no Sharp Filter in the kf area, click on Sharp Filter to get it in the kf area, then open pop down and select Insert effects curve. This is the closest to copy/paste and you can only do one at a time.
2. Using Audio cleaning - if you have done some cleaning, used compressor, EQ on and object and want the same on all, then that is easy as the option is right there as "Apply to all." However, if you just want to apply the same effects to one or more audio clips, select them and then with them highlighted, right-click on the one that already has the effects to be copied. Hit OK and a box will pop up. Choose "Change all selected." This does all effects, so if you only wanted a few of them, then you have to modify the process.
3. Using the external audio editor, Music Editor 3 or Audio & Music Lab Premium (AML) - use right-click "Edit wave externally" from within MEP/VPX on an audio clip. This mixes down the audio and replaces it with a wav file that is sent to the external editor. Do the cleaning and mastering that you want in the editor. Once done, if you want to reuse the same effects on other clips, then go to Edit, Load/Save real-time effect settings, Save Cleaning effects settings, give a name, extension is .cfx. Repeat for Save mastering effects settings, extension .mfx. Now you can exit the editor, accept Save, and the audio clip on the timeline is replaced with the one with the effects. Select another clip, right-click "Edit wave externally" to open it in the editor. Edit, Load/Save real-time effect settings, Load Cleaning effects settings, and load the one that you just saved. Do the same for Mastering effects. Now look at the two areas; the effects are all there. I should have noticed this earlier as I was not saving my effects and trying to remember what I did from one clip to the next. So I learned something new today.
BTW, Terry, you may want to download, install and give the VST path to the free Melda effects. You might find some of them useful. John EB and I bought, have and use Melda MDynamicEQ. Purchased on sale. It can be loaded in the mixer; I haven't figured out how to apply it to an object in VPX. It seems that VST's cannot be applied at the object level, unless John EB or someone has found a way. Of course, I can export the clip to AML and do it there.
AFAICS there is no way to apply a VST such as the MDynamic EQ to a single object.
I would also ask why would you want to do this to a single object?
AFAICS, VST's such as this are for finalisation of the export/disc to adjust the final audio levels to, for example, meet required specification levels required for broadcasting, or overall sound boost such as Loudness.
Just like the EQ in the basic cleaning part, MDynamic EQ can be used for many things, like de-essing, cutting out or decreasing a certain frequency, etc., and one would want to apply a specific effect to one clip, not all of them, thus it would be useful to be able to use it on a single object. I have iZotope Nectar Elements. Same thing, I want to apply an effect to one clip, not the track. Right now, the only way is to use the Edit Wave Externally feature which takes longer than if one could add a VST effect to the cleaning part, for example, or in the Effects, Audio effects. I want to be able to modify the effect if need be, so Editing externally is not really the best option.
