Could someone please explain the difference between Save As, Backup, Manage/Export in Magix Edit Pro 2014 Plus?

I use Magix Edit Pro 2014 Plus in a  very amateur way to edit our holiday videos. I am unsure as to the difference between "Save As, Backup and Manage/ Export". What is the best and safest way to backup videos I'm working on - backups that include all the relevant information needed to complete the project? I want to save to my hard drive and when the video is complete I save to removable media. Also what are the differences between the files with extensions .MTS, .MVP, .HDP, _mts.HDP? I'm confused! Thanks.

Hi,

Have you read about each of those topics in the PDF manual?

To answer your first question, do you have automatic saving enabled as shown here?

That will save your project to the folder you specified in the current Projects folder, with names like YourProjectName_BAK2.MV_ so that you can later use File > Load backup project  if necessary. Note that it doesn't save your media. And if you've moved any of that to different locations then MEP will tell you it can't find them when you try to run that backup.

At any stage, but usually only at the end of a project then use File > Backup > Copy project and media into a folder to save everything.

Hi Prue,

Further to Terry's message, in the Help manual, read pages 34 to understand what a project is, 218-219 and 333 for backup and backup copy, 237-238 exporting,  243-250 for definitions of almost everything you asked for. You could have found these yourself by typing the term into the Search part of the F1 Help file or by looking in the index at the end of the pdf manual. If you still don't understand something, then please ask.

"What is the best and safest way to backup videos I'm working on - backups that include all the relevant information needed to complete the project?" See page 218 for Backup copy.

See these threads for H0 and HDP files. They are temporary files. _mts.HDP is simply the name of your mts file that you imported plus HDP to create a temporary file used by MEP.

MVP is the extenstion for a MEP project file. See pages 21 and 34 in the manual.

MTS is a video format extension. See page 16 in the manual.
