crackling audio when merging clips together

pete-Oneill wrote on 12/9/2021, 1:49 AM

i just got the new movie edit pro and every time i merge 2 clips together i get a few crackles as the audio transitions from the first clip to the next, ive tried to adjust the audio from each clip up/down nothing seems to eliminate it, it does it in the software preview and is exactly the same in the exported file. ive used this software in the past on an old computer and dont remember this being an issue now i have a new computer and this is the new version, my first video using this new version and im already frustrated! any help would be appreciated

Hi Pete and welcome to the user to user forums.

In the program go to File / Settings / Program and open the Playback tab.

Make sure Audio playback is set to Wave driver and set to the appropriate output device.

At the Audio Buffer settings, increase the Multi-track size and Preview size by pressing the + symbol to the right of the boxes once to increase the buffer sizes and close and play the project again. See if things improve. If they do improve but not completely get rid of the problem try the same again, only adding one incremental jump at a time. Do not increase the amount of audio buffers above those settings at this time and preferably leave that one alone.

The problem with altering any of these settings is that is can have a detrimental effect on the responsiveness of the playback controls introducing lag or non responsiveness as more and more data gets preloaded into the system ram whenever you press play.

Each progressive upgrade of the program demands more from a given computer system than the previous version of the program. This means that if the components are not upgraded along with the program that there can be repercussions in performance the older the system gets. Often it is better performance wise not to choose to upgrade a program if the system running it is more than a few years old and not using premium components across the chain.

Ray.

Hi

If @CubeAce suggestions do not work we will need more information.

Computer specification and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full - I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

Are the audio drivers up to date?

Download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips that the issue is with, and post the results, see this tutorial if you are not familiar with MediaInfo   on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip.

The amount of free space on the hard drive(s) you have.

hello, i really appreciate the quick replies but i think ive figured out the problem, im making a compilation video with about 60 clips [mp4 clips from a gopro] which worked fine before but i realised the clips ive been trimming were already compiled and rendered through this editor as a clip file i am further editing and its because the clips im merging together were already put into a compilation and exported and saved and i am now chopping clips from that exported file to shorten and add text and its these clips that pop and crackel when merged back together, i have found that if i get the original mp4 clips they merge together just fine, there are times when i must save a file then re-edit it later that is when the pop and crackeling happens and i would still like to correct this if possible because i often have to run compilations through here and shorten clips which will then present this problem again.

Can you clarify what you mean by 'save a file' eg what steps you are taking and the type of 'file'.
