cutting and pasting MP4 videos -- saving without encoding?

I have two MP4 (m2ts) files exported by VPX. One of the files has a problem at the end due to a VPX crash (the subject of another Forum thread), and the other file is a "clean" export of the end of the project.

Is there any way to use VPX to cut and paste two videos together without re-encoding them? When I try this and export with the same settings as the two files, the export reencodes the entire video and looks like it will take many hours, plus it will NOT use hardware encoding not even if that is enabled.

Hi Ralph. Short answer is 'normally no'.

If you are only butt joining the two clips together and not adding any effects you should however get set the option in the advanced settings to select 'Smart Copy' which I noticed on your last reply in the other topic thread you had not ticked. That in theory should do as you ask but doesn't always work or significantly shorten export times.

It is though, worth a try as sometimes it will do both.
