Does Acid pro have a CHANCE!!. Recently the owners of Acid Pro Magix sold off Samplitude, Sequoia and Music Studio. Here's the article.
https://www.soundonsound.com/news/boris-fx-acquire-sequoia-samplitude-music-studio

These three DAW's were really big time players in the make up of the Magix line of production software. They were so in command that it actually made little sense for them to focus on Acid Pro since they already had Samplitude, Sequoia, Music Studio, Music Maker, Sound Forge etc. They already had a stellar line up of beginner DAW's to Professional. So what would be the point of them focusing on Acid other than to cater to there community. Which after awhile that kinda falls thin if the community is not as strong as lets say the Vegas Pro community.

Acid was left on the bench for a minute. But now with this recent sale everything kinda changes. Magix no longer has a professional music DAW in there line up. Samplitude was there flagship, followed by Sequoia then Acid Pro. Music Maker was always marketed as there beginner DAW, and Sound Forge there audio editor. But now since there flagship and the next up in line been taken out of the line up, Acid Pro is left as there only real professional DAW.

I think that could be great news for the Acid Pro community. All I ask is that we support. If Magix comes out with a new version of Acid Pro, buy it. Yeah we know it may not be perfect, but lets show them we care and support. Other communities like the MPC community, the Pro Tools community the FL Studio community supports there product line no matter what. Even if they don't like the new stuff they will try it then complain lol.  Acid Pro really kicks a lot of DAW's butts as far as the workflow is concerned. It's Beat Mapper is awesome and its Smart Keys are great for quick editing. So if Magix does crown Acid as its new flag ship, lets show them some love and support.

Magix cannot sell Acid to another company. It's owned by the developers of Vegas and they want to keep Vegas and it's developer team.

Development of Acid is up to the Vegas team. If they don't want to do it, there will be no new version.

Reply to SP, This was from CHAT GPT.

🎛️ MAGIX owns Acid Pro and Vegas Pro In May 2016, MAGIX Software GmbH acquired the majority of Sony Creative Software’s product lines—including ACID Pro, Sound Forge, and VEGAS Pro. So MAGIX became the rightful owner of all three, not just a licensee or distributor.

📦 Acid Pro and Vegas Pro are not inseparable While they were both developed by Sonic Foundary then later Sony Creative Software and acquired together, they are distinct products. MAGIX has continued to develop and sell them separately. There's no technical or legal bundling that prevents MAGIX from selling Acid Pro independently, just as they do with Samplitude.

🔄 Recent changes in ownership MAGIX itself was acquired by RM Equity Partners in early 2025 after filing for insolvency in late 2023. This restructuring may affect how MAGIX manages its product portfolio, but it doesn’t change the fact that MAGIX owns Acid Pro and can sell it.

So yes—MAGIX can sell Acid Pro, just like Samplitude.

@DyReck411 I found this explanation. It was originally never planed to develop new versions of Acid and Sound Forge. We simply got lucky.

The truth was that VEGAS Pro was the primary target of the acquisition and was spun off as a child company. SF and Acid were not intended to be actively developed after the initial rebranding. However, demand was very high for new versions of those products and it made sense for Magix to begin development of them again. However, no engineers with a history of working on SF or Acid from the previous ownership were involved in this new development (since they were not asked to come over to Magix at the time of the sale and have since moved on to other opportunities). Even when Magix did restart development of those products, it was not clear they would even use the original codebase for those products. As a result, the engineering teams in Dresden were brought in to develop those products and they were then sold under the Magix branding.

Just to clear up some misinformation here...

Yes, Acid Pro, Sound Forge and Vegas Pro were products that were developed by Sonic Foundry and later Sony. They did share a common code base. They were sold to Magix in 2016. Initially, Magix only had the intention of continuing development of Vegas Pro. After seeing value with Acid and Sound Forge a few years later, they did decide to set up new teams to restart development on those to products. At that time, the Vegas code base has been altered in such a significant way that much of the previously shared code was unable to be used in new versions of SF and Acid. As a result, development of those products was done independently from Vegas by a team in Germany at Magix. Vegas Creative Software, the group working on Vegas Pro, did not work on Acid or Sound Forge.

As for the future...I really have very little information I can provide. I am not involved in upper management decisions (and even if I was, I would not be able to say anything). My advice would be, as loyal customers of these products, continue to support them and be vocal about your love for them. As the company sees value in these products through the support of its customers, that could spur an acceleration of development for new versions in the future.

@SP I mean that could have been the case then. I recall as soon as Magix brought it from Sony they immediately said they would support its customers.

"These products from Sony Creative Software are the perfect addition to our portfolio,” says Magix CEO Klaus Schmidt. “We have already strengthened our presence in the United States in order to propel development and sales. This autumn, we plan to release new versions of the video- diting programs Vegas Pro and Movie Studio, which are heavily oriented toward the customer requirements of today.”

Magix will continue to support all current SCS customers who purchased products from Sony to ensure a seamless end user experience.

And the head Magix CPO is Gary Rebholz. He’s been working with Sony/Magix for nine years. He was doing the educational videos for the early Vegas and Acid Pro software programs back in 1998.

But Acid Pro has new owners now. And they are very much aware of the history of Acid Pro. They talked about it on a couple of there interviews. Now they constantly promote Music Maker as there entry level DAW for beginners, Let’s see what they have in store for Acid.

@Magixderek I totally agree.
