Does Movie Edit Pro support ASF format?

I can't import ASF file to Movie Edit Pro Plus. How can I work with ASF video format? When I try to import file there is a warning: "The file format of ...... .asf cannot be read. Please make sure that the drive is not full or write-protected. If you don't have an authorization to write or read from this path, please contact the administrator".

I've been using trial version, but I want to buy full version if it supports ASF format.

Thank you. Is there any converter so I could use Magix with my ASF files converted?

@Slawomir

Can you post to a file sharing site, one, preferably short, .asf file that others can download and test in various convertor softwares? I have a couple on my machine and am happy to test whether either of them can convert your file to a format which MEP can read and use.

@Slawomir @emmrecs

It appears .asf is a container file and can be converted by VLC Player.

An ASF file is a media file stored in the Advanced Systems Format (ASF), a proprietary video and audio container format. ... If the ASF container format stores audio, it is typically saved as a Windows Media Audio (. WMA) file. If it stores video, it is typically saved as a Windows Media Video (. WMV) file.

I can open ASFs with no problems in MEP. This'll be a codec issue. Don't ask me what codecs I have on my machine as I haven't got a clue! 🙂

Here's the one I imported:

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.
