@keruxjeff

Hi

The error message you are getting is typical of an issue with one of the objects on the timeline of movie 1 - this could be an image, video, title or audio object.

Assuming the video/image/audio files are not saved on an external hard drive or other storage media and/or you are not working from a hard drive then isolation of the issue is time consuming, however this is the quickest way I have found.

  1. Create a backup copy of the project using File Save As and use a different name

  2. Remove last half of the timeline objects.

  3. Export to MPEG if you are going to create a DVD or AVCHD for Blu-Ray

  4. If it fails repeat step 2

  5. If it is OK put back the removed half, remove the first half and export again

  6. Keep repeating this until either an error occurs or everything is OK.

What you are doing is a form of Binary search to locate the section containing the error in as few steps as possible.

Once the offending clip/image is found then remove it from the project and add it back again.

With my entire timeline, filled with many clips and edits, I went back and created 4 main AVI files. I then created a brand new project with those AVIs. I then went to create a DVD with an extra soundtrack and the following is the file log error message I received. I am so frazzled... any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

Thanks for the full burn log it indicates there may be another issue other than with an object on the timeline :

. . . . E: hp DVD-RAM UJ8B1 Rev. H.03 . . . . .

Is this a laptop computer and/or an external USB DVD drive?

What is your computer specification - see this topic for details required also include hard drive(s) capacity and free disc space..

What brand/type of discs are you using.

Have you tried burning using Image Recorder instead of to the DVD drive to create an ISO image file on your computer.

Any other information eg Burn options you are selecting may help.

It is a laptop. I have successfully created other DVDs using this program, but this is the first time I have tried assigning multiple audio tracks for the DVD. Most recently I exported my entire timeline into MPEG2 segments. All played back fine. But when I entered the DVD encoding process this morning... I received the following. To my untrained eye it looks the same as all the others messages..

Hi

Thanks for the info you have provided, however we still need the following:

  1. Is the DVD-RAM drive internal or external

  2. hard drive(s) capacity and free disc space
  3. What brand/type of discs are you using.

  4. Have you tried burning using Image Recorder instead of to the DVD drive to create an ISO image file on your computer.

1. Internal DVD drive - no problems ever with it

2. Drive Capacity: 1 TB; Free storage space: over 150 Gigs

3. Discs: Memorex DVD-R (but these were not in the drive at the time) All errors happened in the first few minutes of movie encoding/mixing process, long before it got to the burning process.

4. I believe I did try Image Recorder. Just to be sure I will try again.

If you look at the error messages in your second post - all above the error about rendering - they state that there is no disk in the drive! You most likely need to have a media in the disk drive prior to the rendering starts.

Simply try with a disk in the drive when starting the process. (Or have you tried this successfully without disk in the drive before?)

Hi

. . . . error messages . . . . they state that there is no disk in the drive . . . .

This does not have any effect on the creation of the disk image as VPX ignores the message and continues to create the image.

At the end of the image creation VPX then prompts again for a disc and opens the designated drive tray for disc insertion before commencing the burn as you can see below in this short test example log.

At the end I cancelled the burn, the disc image however is still on the hard drive.

The issue @keruxjeff is having is at the point of trying to start to render the movie menu, step 2 does not get started.

In addition to the other items I requested can you also tell us which menu template you used for the project and did you make any changes to it?

Thanks

Just saw it as an possibility that the errors were blocking the renderer. You have proved it wrong. Check

My little German skills translate the above to something like that the (configured) split point (when using/requiring multiple layers/disks) is larger than the actual disk size. This would lead to that the rendering prosess runs out of designated diskspace prior to the configured split point.

Hi

. . . .   Splitpunkt 4271833088 auf Disk mit Größe 3878125568 . . . .the (configured) split point (when using/requiring multiple layers/disks) is larger than the actual disk size . . . .

It does look like that however, IIRC, the reported disc capacity is the default value that the burner is programmed with when no disc is present and in this case it does not support Dual Layer DVD discs.

Update... I wish I could say it works, but no. Since last entry, I have optimized my computers performance. Freed up 200 gigs of storage space, made sure Windows was up-to-date, uninstalled and reinstalled VPX and all its components, tried encoding just to Image Recorder twice,.. always the same problem though.

It finishes step 1 of mixing down Audio Track 2 and appears to switch to whatever comes next and wham! Error message.

Before trying all of the above, I exported all my files into 1 AVI per chapter. And tried encoding with those. Always the same problem.

I mixed all my audio files into one MP3. still same error.

I mixed all my original clips into MPEG2s. still same error.

I switched DVD menu templates. Same error

I have spent nearly 30 hours trying to figure this out. It must be a bug in the system

Anyone having these problems?

Why are you using AVI as an intermediate and not the Magix format mxv? I would never consider using AVI, and I have always been successful with mxv.

@keruxjeff

I mixed all my audio files into one MP3

Have you tested this by mixing all your audio files to .wav? .wav is VPX's "preferred" audio format.

I have used .wav and mp3 and it happens both ways. I have tried it with AVIs, MPEg2S and with Magix Video files. None seem to make a difference.

Personally, I think it's either a rogue setting that I am not aware of OR a bug in the program. No matter how many times I set the audio track designations, 90% of the time it does not retain the designation even after I immediately save the project. When I close and reopen the program, the audio track designations are usually different.

When it does retain the info correctly, I immediately go to the DVD menus to check to see they operate correctly. When they do, I attempt burning the project. But then right after step one (mixing down DVD track 2) the error message pops up.

A few questions:

1. Is there a file size limit?

2. What are the settings that I should make sure are set? I have scoured the settings in encoding and advanced screens and do not see anything that looks odd. I also tried it both with "Hardware Encoding" checked and unchecked and neither works.

3. I had a thought that perhaps it is reading one of my two DVD audio tracks as a video file, thinking perhaps that was the problem, but it to my eye, everything looks proper. The question here is: If it were reading it as video file would that matter?

If it matters, the menus I have tried using are Sparkles and Neon Lights. Also, the timeline plays back seamlessly in real-time.

I feel like I am getting closer, but still grasping at straws.

Btw, thank all of you so much for all the help! It is much appreciated!

P.S. I have used MX Premium for years. Recently I upgraded to VPX for this one feature alone. I have hundreds of VHS and MiniDV tapes to convert to DVD and put separate commentary on. Prior to this first attempt at separate audio tracks, all my VPX DVD burn tests without additional audio tracks were successful.

@keruxjeff

. . . . It finishes step 1 of mixing down Audio Track 2 . . . .

This is not correct the sequence for a single movie with audio switching and one chapter page is:

  • Step 1 Encode movie 1 this is the entire movie on the timeline
  • Step 2 Encode movie menu
  • Step 3 Encode audio menu
  • Step 4 Encode chapter menu 1 and then Convert Movie into the actual movie VOB
  • Step 6 Burn image

The basic structure of the above DVD, with respect to the VOBs only, that are created is:

VIDEO_TS.VOB - the main menu

VTS_01_0.VOB - the chapter menu

VTS_01_1.VOB - the main movie

The audio selection page does not have a VOB associated with it.

. . . . A few questions:

Is there a file size limit? . . . .

Approx 4GB for a single layer DVD, this is to allow for the control files and bad sectors on the DVD disc.

. . . . What are the settings that I should make sure are set? . . . .

Accept the defaults there is no need to change anything

. . . . I had a thought that perhaps it is reading one of my two DVD audio tracks as a video file, thinking perhaps that was the problem, but it to my eye, everything looks proper. The question here is: If it were reading it as video file would that matter? . . . . .

In your case, as step 1 completes, the problem is likely to be an issue with the main menu, eg the menu has been edited and the edit results in and invalid menu structure which cannot be encoded into the VOB.

I have repeated testing creating a multi audio channel DVD in VPX on 2 different computer before and after the latest patch update.

I will keep trying. Been trying different menus, but still the same problem. A VTS_01_1.VOB keeps coming up in the pre-burn box asking me if I want to use it for the project. (I am assuming it is a part of the project that rendered in prior attempts.) When I have re-encoded it (i.e "encode all"), the error happens. When I use it, it jumps to step 6, and burns a disc with a menu and a partial movie which stops playback after just a few seconds.

In a desperate attempt, I have just deleted all the VTS_01_1.VOBs on my PC. I relaunched VPX. Now it is downloading all VPX's extra files like it's a first install. Once that is done, I will attempt the authoring process again.

On another note: when I first starting using VPX it would optimize my computer's performance when the program was first opened. A dialogue box would appear notifying me of what it was doing. That no longer comes up. Does this mean it is not optimizing OR does that dialogue notification no longer appear after using the program for a few weeks? I doubt it could be causing my problem, but could it be?

On that other note: Whether it is my problem or not, and if it is no longer optimizing my PC for editing, how do I turn it back on? I have been all through the settings and cannot find anything that indicates how.

Made some progress... I changed the MPEG encoder settings bitrate from 8224 down to 7767. For the first time in this whole process, I did not get an error message! I actually went through the whole process. (Yeah! I will take this as a good step in the right direction.)

However, when checking the DVD that was burned, it burned the menu correctly, but only one of my three titles were actually displayed. And the one that was displayed only played for a few seconds before returning the main DVD menu. The other titles were represented on the menu visually but were not encoded. :-(

Does tech support read these threads? I am at my wits end.

Does tech support read these threads?

As a general rule, no, unfortunately.!

Have you actually opened a Support Ticket with Magix? If not, you can use the Contact button in the footer of every forum page to actually start one.

Hi

. . . . MPEG encoder settings bitrate from 8224 down to 7767 . . . .

There is something odd going on - the default bitrate for Standard DVD is 6224 for PAL or 6448 for NTSC.

The maximum default setting is 6448, all the other presets are at this or lower.

How long is the movie on the timeline, based on the burn log data it would appear to be about 1hr 40 mins - is this correct?

We are still waiting on answers to the following:

  1. Burn options you are selecting ?

The bitrate setting you have quoted would suggest that this setting was previously changed as it does not match any of the DVD standard preset default settings, is this correct?

If so what other settings were changed and to what?

  2. Which menu template you used for the project and did you make any changes to it?

I appreciate all the given assistance. However, I have the following comments:

The cause of the problems has nothing to do with capacities, menu settings or the burning drives

All help in this direction are therefore unfortunately not helpful

There is simply an encoder termination of the burning film after about 5-7 minutes.

the solution in this case is to adjust the encoder settings or to change the project at the termination point. It may be that there, e.g. a transition or effect can not be rendered correctly

best regards

Try to burn the disc by creating a folder. Selection in the picture.

The entire DVD structure (with chapters, etc.) will be created in the folder

Then just burn this folder as a DVD

You indicate the directory and the recording should start.
