. . . . a very complete user manual ON PAPER . . . .

And IIRC very thick and heavy, not to mention those trees and the environment ! 😢

At least you have a method that works.

I bit of a long shot, if you browse a DVD created in PD do you see one folder - VIDEO_TS or 2 folders the second being AUDIO_TS ?

If there are the 2 above, then it may be the players you have are balking at not seeing the AUDIO_TS folder - this folder is unnecessary for video discs as the audio is in the video, it is for standalone audio files to make a disc that can be played like a music CD and DVD/BD players should ignore when it is not present on disc.

P D burns do have separate audio and video TS folders and these DVDs play great everywhere: computers, any DVD player. And it is easy to add chapter marks using P D instead of MEP.

So maybe MEP could be modified to provide both A and V folders when burning to keep all players "happy"!

Also, my P D is version 12 from 2013.

It may be "old" but it works fine for my purposes.

It is always a good idea to keep old programs running if you can for older tech products. It's not always practical though as it is not always forwards compatible. Is anyone still using an analogue TV set? Who listens to am radio? I personally don't even listen to fm any more or found a working 8 track player. Some classic equipment is kept going by the amount of enthusiast use that makes it profitable for smaller companies to continue production, but equally a lot more goes by the wayside as use dwindles. I can't find new memory cards for some of my older cameras any more and haven't bought a prerecorded DVD for as long as I can remember.

Just out of interest, how cheap are DVDs as a storage medium and physical storage space compared to other methods now?

Hi

. . . . provide both A and V folders when burning to keep all players "happy" . . . .

As I said previously, players should ignore the lack of the AUDIO_TS folder - it is not a requirement of the DVD standard that the folder must be there, and all players must follow the standard.

Another question I must ask: When I see the window shown in the attached jpg, I usually click "adjust". Is the quality of the edited or burned video affected by the choice made here, or is it just concerned with how the display looks on my monitor? I never quite understood this option.

Hi

The message means that the project setting is 1920 x 1080 resolution and you are adding a video of lower resolution and do you want to set the project to match the video you are adding.

The general rule with the project setting is that is should match the source videos used, however if you are mixing video resolutions eg 1920 x 1080 with 720 x 480 then use the majorities resolution for the project.

This does raise the question of 'can I upscale 720 x 480 video to 1920 x 1080 in the final product - you can however the image quality at the higher resolution will not be as good as using 1920 x 1080 source video.

Upscaling is trying 'create something from nothing' and if you are creating Blu-Ray discs it is, IMHO, best left to the player to do the upscaling.

Based on your answer above it looks like I am doing the right thing when I choose the ADJUST button. I have always been pleased.and impressed with the sharpness effect in MEP. A great feature; it helps a lot! And the other tools under the effects menu are great, too.

One thing that is annoying at times is that MEP will occasionally freeze and do nothing which then requires a restart.

I just put up with this problem... no other choice!
