Hi  AA Thanks for your post regarding MEP versions. MEP 2016 plus was purchased on 20-06-16 direct from Magix Software GmBH.I can assure you the manual illustration for Edit Workspace has always been shown on my installation. However the Record Workspace is not as shown on manual illustration but is the more recent version giving record options for AVCHD and HDV.I do not believe I made reference to this being my record screen, I should have this clear.It would appear I have part old and part new.Could it be that an up grade has taken place without my knowledge ?

Regards langford

@langford

It's not possible to have part old, part new.

It seems to me that you have both programs installed; MEP 16, with the big rectangular RECORD EDIT BURN buttons and MEP 2016 with the small icons for Catooh, Edit, Burn. Is it possible that you are alternately opening MEP 16 and MEP 2016 and getting confused about the slightly different layouts?

The screenshot you did for us is of the later version, MEP 2016. It has exactly the same features and functions as the earlier version, and I've pointed out the equivalent icons for the big buttons.

All I can suggest from here is to re-read my post of the location of the buttons/icons in MEP 2016 and have a read of the manual (download it from the Help menu). If you have been using MEP 16 "on many projects", you will quickly come to grips with the slight changes from version 16 to version 2016.

And I will re-iterate: in MEP 2016, if you have clicked on the Edit icon at top right, you will be in Edit mode, exactly the same as if you had clicked on the big EDIT button in MEP 16.

Good luck.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Hi AA. Thank you for your response. This is now very confusing to me and it may be time to refer back to my original question-"where is my Edit Screen".The answer would appear to be it is still there but it looks different for reasons unknown.Your references to MEP 2016 and MEP 16 also confuse me. As far as I am aware I have installed what it shown on the box Edit Pro 2016 plus.I feel it is now time to draw this to close and adjust to the new screen and not go any further as why this this has happened .

I am still sure that when I last opened MEP 2016 in 2017 The Edit Screen was as I have indicated.I have since then been using Panasonic HD Writer AE 5.0. It was only in the last few weeks I have started to use MEP 2016 again that the screen difference became apparent.

In 2012 I first started to use MEP 2012plus.At that time I was using Windows 7 prof. After the enforced change by Microsoft to WIn 10 prof. Magix advised some functions in MEP 2013 may not work, I then installed MEP 2016plus and uninstalled MEP 2013.

I would thank all Community members that have assisted in this matter. This is a good organisation and one of the few places where I feel I can get assistance.

Regards langford.

Hi John. Thank you for your response. I always make a hard copy of a manual even though in the case of MEP 2016 this amounts to 200 double sided sheets. I prefer to have the paper to hand rather than obscure part of the workspace.

You will see from my recent response to AA that I feel there is no more to gained from further investigation.

Thank you for the interest in item.

Regards Langford..

Hi

. . . . it may be time to refer back to my original question-"where is my Edit Screen".The answer would appear to be it is still there but it looks different for reasons unknown. . . . .

The title of the topic states your question is about Movie Edit Pro 16 Plus - this version corresponds to the layout with the three button in the image you posted showing them.

However the another image shows you have MEP 2016 - this is the version that has the newer layout and you are asking where the buttons are.

As @AAProds has commented, I also suspect that you have MEP 16 Plus still installed and have been inadvertently switching between them - this is very easy to do if you are using the icons on your desktop.

Can you check this - probably the easiest way is to look at the Start menu, Magix folder this should have all version installed listed as my example below shows the ones I have installed

Movie Edit Pro 2012 - there is no such program, Movie Edit Pro 2013 was the first to use the year number, the previous version (2012) being called Movie Edit Pro MX.

Hi  John. Thank you for your continued interest. I have checked the Magix folder as suggested, only MEP 2016 plus is installed. I feel Magix could have found a far better way of identifying the product versions.

Hi

Thanks for the feedback - it is more difficult to differentiate older versions of MEP - they had very similar shortcut icons with subtle shade variations to differentiate them.

John, Thank you once again.

As I have indicated I only moved on from MEP 2013 plus due to my enforced change to Win 10 and advice from Magix that there may be problems with a Win 10 / 2013 installation.Over the past years I have used Microsoft Movie Maker, Videostudio 7 MEP 2004 and 2013and now 2016.Of all these I have found 2013 fits best with my needs and ability.

Regarding the Win10 / 2013 combination,as far you are aware,was this ever put to the test. I am thinking if I favour 2013 why not reinstall. I am aware that tools and functions are often passed on to new versions and this appears much the case between 2013 to 2016.However screen appearance and finding tools often changes.Change at my age is something I try to avoid. If I am content with 2013 and it will run in Win 10, why not use it.

Regards  Langford.

@David-Font

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Unfortunately your first post has nothing to do with the question which this thread is about and is also about a completely different product. Hence, it has been hidden.

Please do not hijack another user's thread in this way, but rather start a new thread with your question, taking care to select the correct product (Video Easy) and including details about your computer and the exact version of VE which you have.

@langford , @AAProds

Hi Langford, Alwyn

. . . . There's something odd going on here. Your screenshot is of MEP 2016, . . . .

You are correct Alwyn - the first screen shot here is MEP 2016

However the later screen shot here is MEP 16 Plus - note the file path top right of the Import tab, and the Record/Edit/Burn icons top right of the menu bar

MEP 2016 top bar is

Langford - we appear to be going round in circles :-

  • the tiltle of this topic and the first post refer to MEP 16 Plus

  • In your previous post, and later post above here, both indicate you are using MEP 2016 on Windows 10

  • The later screen shot above here is MEP 16 Plus and the file path top of the Import tab suggests that it is either:

    a. installed on an older version of Windows, possibly Windows XP

    or

    b. was installed on an older version of Windows which has now been upgraded possibly through Windows 7 and/or 8

Can you clarify which version there is an issue with.

@johnebaker

Hi John.

This thread was created in 2021 and, I believe, was answered to the OP's satisfaction. The hidden post was completely OT but has served to resurrect this thread!

I think, to avoid further confusion, perhaps it should be closed?
