Editing an inserted still image

If I insert a still image on my video (insert still image at playback marker), and save it as a Take (.TK2), is there any way I can use that file in a photo editor to enhance, etc? Under properties it says I can open with Irfanview (which I have), but I don't find it as a supported file type. Is there any other way (or photo editor) that will allow me to do this? I probably can use what editing capabilities are in MEP to some degree, but a photo editor would give me a lot more options. Just wondering.

No, a Take is not an image or video clip that is editable.

You can do the enhancing eg Brightness, Contrast, Gamma colour correction, Sharpening, Cropping, Section, Rotation etc etc, in MEP - it is a non destructive editor ie it does not alter the original image or video clip to which it is applied. The range of adjustments make in MEP are quite extensive and they are non destructive.

What feature of an image editor would you want?

Thanks John. I was looking to remove some of the background. Maybe I can do that with a mask? I'll watch some of the posted tutorials - I need a better understanding of using masks. Thanks again, I kinda figured that - just wanted to make sure.

In MEP, just export to a jpeg and use that to modify in another program.

Even easier - if you rt.click the image in the timeline and select "Edit in Photo designer" in the context menu, Photo designer will open and you can carry out detailed editing using the default Image editing program that opens and the edited image will appear back in the VPX timeline on closing. If you want to assign a different image editor ie Adobe PS then set the path in VPX " Program Setting (Y) > Folders tab > Image editor" and navigate to the Photoshop.exe where upon this will become the default Image editor that opens when you Rt. click the image in the timeline.

Hi Peter,

That method only works if the object is an image from an image file. The file, like a jpg, has to be on the hard drive and that is what is opened by the external editor.

Harry used a right-click on a video clip, insert still image at playback marker, thus just a repeated frame of the video object. There is no file to be edited so the command does not show on the right-click menu.

Thanks Peter - I tried that, but I don't get the option to do that. The "Export" method mentioned above seems to be working for me.

Just to give you an idea why I'm doing this: I have several videos I'm working with, that contain people I don't have photos of elsewhere. As I'm putting together my project, I'd like to extract a few of them, and highlight them in my video. I could create the still frame and use MEP's editing options, but that's just more work MEP is doing in my project (more work/effects = slower response). So by bringing them into my photo editing program, I have a lot more restoration (particularly, because the exported resolution isn't that great) and enhancement options that will result in a simple JPEG object that I can fly out of my original still image in order to emphasize the person I'm spotlighting. Eye candy for my presentation lol.

This can be done in MEP

there are many variations possible however the starting point is the same - the timeline for the example is shown below the only additional requirement is a black/white image as seen on the timeline with Size & Position adjusted, Chromakey white applied and the transparency control (circled) pulled down to reveal some of the background.
