Editor frame rate is broken

RaoulDuke wrote on 2/3/2018, 12:59 PM

I've recently run into the following problem. Whenever i import a clip of any format into my Magix Movie Edit Pro 2016 Premium, the frame rate on the little window where you can view your project is so low I can't edit the clips. When I play the project, the orange line that moves across the timeline is also completely frozen in place. If I manually move the orange line without hitting play, I can still go frame by frame on the clip. I can also export the project and the frame rate is completely fine. It is just the editing program itself that lags when the project is being played. I have tried re-installing the program, but this did not help. I currently have version 15.0.0.114 (UDP3) downloaded. This is a completely new issue that seemingly came out of nowhere.

My computer has the following specs:

  • Operating system: Windows 10
  • Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GXT 970
  • RAM: 12,0 GB
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz

Terry, East Grinstead, UK. PC: i7 6700K, 4.0 GHz, 32GB with Win 10 pro. Used many earlier versions of MEPP, currently mainly MEPP 2016 & 2017 (Using scores of macro scripts to add functionality, tailored to these versions.)

Hi

. . . . Magix Movie Edit Pro 2016 Premium, the frame rate on the little window where you can view your project is so low I can't edit the clips. . . . . Processor: Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz . . . . Nvidia GeForce GXT 970 . . . .

Assuming you are importing Full HD video, ie 1920 x1080 and that you are referring to playback of the timeline in the preview monitor then try the following:

In the project settings (E key) turn on Automatically create proxy files

Right click the lightning symbol (it should be blue) bottom right of the Preview monitor and check that Reduce resolution and Reduce frame rate are checked.

In the program settings (Y key) Import/export tab check the options Hardware acceleration for playback if possible and Hardware acceleration for export if possible.

There is a potential issue, if when exporting to a video file, eg mp4, and

  • you do not see the word CUDA appearing in the export progress dialog top bar
  • and the HWA options above are turned on
  • and you get no message that HWA has been turned off
  • and the NVidia graphics card drivers have been updated to a later version then was originally on the PC

there will be no Hardware Acceleration (HWA) available - NVidia removed CUDA support which is used by the HWA.

If the NVidia drivers have been updated then if possible revert back to an earlier version of the drivers that does have CUDA support.

If none of the above work then AFAICS the only option left is a new PC.

Thank you for both your advice, but unfortunately none of the steps seem to have fixed the issue. I don't personally think that the problem is with Nvidia, since the project itself shows no indication of play being pressed, as in the orange line that is supposed to move across the timeline stays motionless as the project plays, and so does the upside down triangle at the bottom of the preview screen. Not sure if this info will help, but the audio in the project plays without any issue when hitting play. Also, more importantly this problem even occurs with only images present in the project. The issue also occurs when previewing audio files where you can see the dB and Hz levels.

Hi

Is Windows 10 the 32 or 64 bit version?

To determine which open the Settings app by pressing Windows key + I

Click System, then from the left pane About.

On the right side, look for System type under Device specifications

This will show whether you're using a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system.

From experience the symptoms you are describing are typical for a system that is running out of:

  1. free disc space
  2. free memory
  3. system resources

possible causes are bloated antivirus program/suite, malware, too many other background applications/processes running and running a 32bit version of Windows.

My Windows 10 is the 64-bit version. I have about 1 TB of free disc space, and the only antivirus I'm currently running is the one that comes with Windows 10. I also regularly scan my PC for malware and none has been detected. The issue doesn't seem to be with background processes either.

I'm getting a similar issue as well. The video playback is very choppy. I have hardware acceleration on, and reduced framerate and resolution. I'm running Windows 10, 8 GB RAM, Nvidia GTX 720 ti, and AMD A10 Processor. I just a few days ago purchased this software so it's updated. Also it's Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus. Any help would be welcome!
