Note the white image on track 1 is needed for step 2
Step 2:
To the timeline in step 1 - Add the Alpha effect to the scrolling text and set the arrow to point down, add the white/transparent mask image. so the timeline looks like the image below
Start a new project and import the two videos exported in steps 1 and 2, add the second mask as shown below, add Alpha effect to the mask and set the arrow to point up.
I took a different approach, and after a lot of trial and error and VPX6 arbitrarily changing white text into black (re-opening solved the problem), I found that it was easy to create this without going out of MEP. That is, it's easy once you know how.
Anyway, here is how I did it:
Using Xara or another graphics editor, create a black mask 1920x1080 and overlay 2 white rectangles at the left and right, leaving a blank black part in the middle.
To be able to have the text move left to right and maintain the white bars, make a 1920x1080 white rectangle, to start, just to have the text proportions correct. Create large font black text centred in the white rectangle. Expand the rectangle left and right to be 6000 wide x 1080 high, still with the text centred. Export to a jpg file. This will be the transparent text at the left and right.
Take the same wide rectangle and make it transparent, and change the text from black to white. This will be what you will see in the centre of the screen. If the transparent rectangle is not there, the file will not come into MEP at the same size as the one in step 3.
Place the underlying video on tracks 1 and 4, the mask on track 3 and a copy on track 5. Give each a chromakey Alpha. Arrow should be pointing downwards on the object.
Place the jpg file on track 6 and give it a chromakey Black.
Place the png file on track 2.
Everything should now be aligned, if the 2 scrolling text files both are 6000x1080 with same size text centred in the rectangle, and you should see the image below:
7. To get the text to scroll, select both images with the text, tracks 2 and 6 and group them.
8. Effects, Movement effects, Size/position, put the playback marker at the beginning in the keyframe window, make sure that edit is clicked to see the outline of the text objects, and in the Preview screen, hold down Alt and drag the scrolling text images to the right until just off of the screen. Click on the key frame button to set one here.
9. Move the playback marker in the keyframe window to the right end of the objects, and in the Preview monitor, drag the same scrolling text objects completely to the left until the text is just off of the screen. Click on the key frame button to set one here.
Funny how we think alike - my first efforts were virtually the same as yours with respect to using a text image and scrolling it and applying Chromakey.
However I wanted to use the existing Titling functions within in MEP, to make changing the text easier, and ended up with the 3 step method I posted.
However it does mean rexporting the 2 mxv's again and re-importing into the final project - bit of swings and roundabouts.
I spent an hour trying to do something with the Titling function before giving up. I did some research to see how others did it, having always wanted to be able to do the transparent text part, and went for the methods that I found. I didn't think of exporting to mxv's.
Still I spent an couple of hours struggling with my method before that eureka moment. I redid it this morning properly and it took all of 10 minutes, including the part in Xara. Easy when you know how. I'll stick both of these methods in my toolbox.
I followed your instructions but the last part is not coming on.....I mean the scrolling of the text and the transparent look. Can you please tell me the mistake.
At my point 3, I should have indicated that this is a transparent png file. This one corresponds to my point 6, and is the white text that is placed on track 2. There is no need to give it a chroma key effect, since all that shows up is the text.
See my point 5. The black text on white background made at point 2, needs the chroma key Black on it in order for the text to be transparent. Looking at your screen shot, I don't see that you did this.
I discoved somethig new and interesting as well. Wanted to share.
There are total SIX tracks
• Track 1 and 4: Place the main background video / picture. (The file in No 1 track must be bit longer).
• Track 3 and 5: Place the MASK (Apply Chroma with arrow down)
• Track 6. A jpeg of Black text centered on White Background (Made before)
• Track 2: A jpeg of White text centered on Black Background (Made before)
• Track 6 and 2: Apply Black Box from Chroma
• Track 6 and 2: Play with Size / Position with key-frames
