Effects don´t show when importing

joserobles1941 wrote on 2/23/2018, 7:51 PM

Hi,

After I apply Effects on the time line (Segment and Brightness and Contrast) I saved them on Project as a Mov file. At the same time I export it as as MPG file from File , Export as MPEG and also as a WMV video. When exporting as MPEG I preview video and notice that only half the screen is showing in Segment and it is empty (black) when Brightness and Constrast .

I have also tried to import saved MOV file and try to export it both ways as described above. Problem persists. I have also reset settings to no avail. This has not happened before so I am worried.

Please help me solve this

Thank you

Hi,

I just tried to do the same with MEP2015 and it works. So it is just MEP2017 that is failing.

I hope there is solution other uninstalling and reinstalling it again. Last time it took me a whole week ( when spice master did not show up ) and had to delete every single file there was and go back to the previous version which is the one Í have now .

Hi John EB,

Thank you for replying to my request.

MEP 2017 Premium version is 16.0.1.22. I know this is not the latest version but I opted for not upgrading it when after having done it, Spice Master did not show up. I know this issue has been resolved now with the new version.

When the issue had not still been resolved, I did uninstall the program several times trying to fix it and after installing it again there were some many problems that I decided to go back to the old version for fear of running into more problems. I spent longer than a week doing it. I deleted every trace of it trying to have my pc completely free and only then I was able to have it running well.

I have Spice Master in Transitions, Pixelan´s Creativease, and Red Giant with Chromatic Glow, Knowll Light Factory EZ and Retrograde, and New Blue Titler Pro Express under Effects. The reason I mention this is because I would hate losing them with the new version especially NB Titler. My question then is , since they are already saved in C/Data and Program Files (86) respectively, this will not happen, I mean not being able to use them?

Finally, I have been testing different effects in both MEP 2015 Premium and MEP 2017 with the same results. They are applied in 2015 and not on 2017. For instance, I applied Section, Size and Position and Brightness and Contrast, in that order, and saved them as I described in my initial post. Section is shown splitted where effect has been applied, and Brightness is not visible at all - just a blank screen.

Hi José

. . . . Effects don´t show when importing . . . .

I cannot reproduce this on MEP 2018 with mpg, mp4 or wmv, I cannot test mov as I do not have Quicktime installed.

However that does not mean there is not an issue with MEP and specific hardware configurations or export settings. I am running an 'Intel only' PC ie with no NVidia or AMD graphics card.

Can you put your computer specification in your profile signature - it will help us when trying to find it, I have tried searching your past posts and comments, however it is taking too long to find the information.

Thanks

Hi

Your processor is close to mine (i5-4670K), the only major difference is Windows and the MEP version.

I assume you are using the integrated GPU for hardware acceleration, as you list no third party graphics card, then the problem you are having may be either:

  1. An issue with the project itself.
  2. Something interfering with the rendering process.
  3. A bug in MEP 2017 that was fixed in 2018.

Try the following:

  1. Export the project to a MVD file File, Manage movies, Export
  2. Start a new project and import the MVD file using File, Manage movies, Import
  3. Export to MOV, WMV and MPeg again.

Does the same problem arise if you start a new project, add some video /images, apply the same effects and export to the video formats listed?

Hi John,

Did exactly as you indicated. Same problem. The strange thing is that after exporting MVD file and importing it again into timeline, I checked properties and it was MOV, not MVD.

I also converted MVD file to MP4 with Total Video Converter and imported it. A sign popped up stating that an error had occurred. Finally I exported it as WMV , checked properties and it was WMD all right, and then imported it into timeline and it was empty, no images.

Allow me to ask a few questions

If I upgrade , would it likely fix the problem? How abut the uninstalling and reinstalling option? Since the files of the programs I want to keep would not be affected, they would work on the reinstalled option? Is MEP 2018 much better than 2017?

John, I sincerely appreciate the time you have dedicated to help me. Thank you very much Sir.!!!

Hi

. . . . converted MVD file to MP4 . . . . and imported it. A sign popped up stating that an error had occurred. . . . .

Total Video Converter should not have converted a MVD file to MP4 - that is an impossible conversion.

A MVD file is a 'text' file that contains information about the components used in the project, ie the video, images, audio files and data on the effects applied, settings, cuts, transitions etc - the project file also contains this information plus settings for the program, it does not contain any video, images or audio.

. . . . If I upgrade , would it likely fix the problem? . . . . How abut the uninstalling and reinstalling option? . . .

Good question - the problem is both options may end up with you having MEP 2018 -

  1. If you upgrade then you should not to lose anything, however it may not fix the problem.

  2. If you try re-installing, if you do not have the original installation files and have to download them again, it is likely that the download will be for MEP 2018.

How many files are in the project, and what format are they - post a screen shot of the following dialog - open the Project settings (E key), Movie information tab?

Can you post a screen shot of the timeline?

HI John,

There is only one file- this problem arose when I first started the project which will include several others. On the first shot I have applied Section, size and position and Brightness & Contrast as MOV ( I chekced this in properties). The last two shots clearly show the split screen.

I did not know what an MVD file was. Now I realize it is similar to MOV. What is its purpose?

I do have the serial number for MEP 2017 . Would this serve for reinstalling it? Doesn´t MEP 2018 have a different serial?

Thanks once more,

José Robles

PD. Program is in Spanish but since the layout is the same I hope you don´t have problems with the screen shots

"I did not know what an MVD file was. Now I realize it is similar to MOV. What is its purpose?"

Hi José,

No, it's not similar to an MOV in any way. It's just like an MVP project file, but describing only that particular 'movie'.

If you select one in a File Explorer folder (or MEP's media pane if you prefer) and drag it onto the timeline or monitor area, it will open it as a new movie within the existing project, whether that's empty or already contains one or more movies (tabs).

Hi José

This is what the small preview window in the Project settings should look like

As you can see the project settings small preview is full screen, in your images it is part screen in both and has odd bars in the second of the 2 images showing the small preview screen.

Can you post a screen shot of the Size/Animation dialog, and the Section dialog for the selected clip shown in your images above.

Have you installed any 'All in one' codec packs such as K-Lite, Codec Pack All, All in One Media Codec Pack etc?

If yes, which one? It could be the cause of the problem.

Note: do not install them they are not necessary.

Hi Terry,

Thank you for contributing. I just read as much information as I could about MOV and MVD file extensions. They are both containers, right?

John EB,

Please view the attached files. I knew how the preview of Section should look like with Section applied but since it appeared covering only part of the screen I tried to solve this applying size and position to enlarge it. As a last resort I applied Zoon but did not work either.

As to the Codecs this is the first time I hear of them. I did search for them in C/ Data just in case but found nothing.

Hi Terry,

Yes, I read it several times but for me it was too succint. That is why I started searching for more information and found very little only mentioning it was a Magix file.

I use Mov files to save a project in Magix Projects in case something unexpected happens that could ruin it. Would you please tell me when to use the MVD files.

Thanks

Hi José,

"I use Mov files to save a project in Magix Projects in case something unexpected happens that could ruin it."

I think you will be handicapped until you really do grasp the important distinction between exporting video files and saving projects.

After stepping through the following I hope you'll get it!

Hi Terry,

Sorry for not answering sooner.

I want to thank you for all the trouble you have gone through posting such detailed and useful material.

I have spent almost all day long reading the PDF manual which I printed when I first installed the program searching all information related to the subject of Saving and Exporting. Now that I see the way you Save the project it is different from the way I do. I use Save as, not Managing , Export.

I will not comment anything else until I have really reviewed everything concerning Saving and Export since I feel I have taken too much of your and John EB´s precious time.

All the best to both,

José Robles

browj2 wrote on 3/2/2018, 10:53 PM

Hi José,

I'll take a stab at it. Save will save with the same name that the project was saved with, if one was already saved, with the extension .MVP. Save as, simply allows you to change the name of the project, it will still be saved as .MVP, but you can change the prefix.

My project filename is Seasons.MVP. If you have more than one movie open - see my example screen shot of Seasons.MVP, with 4 tabs, meaning 4 movies, Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn, when you save a project, with save or save as, it saves the entire project with all of the movies to a project file with the extension .MVP.

However, if you want to send out one of the movies, say, "Summer," to be either opened and edited by itself or in another project, in MEP, then you do it either by:

  1. Select the tab "Summer," then File, Manage Movies, Export which will give you a project file with the extension .MVD, not .MVP, or to get the same result
  2. Select the tab "Summer," then click on the popdown to the right of the movie tabs and select "Export movie" and it will propose "Summer.MVD" not .MVP.

Why? Because an MVD is a project that contains only one movie, whereas an MVP file contains one or more movies.

An MVD file is not at all an mov or mp4, it is simply the project, but only one movie, with all elements, video, audio, titles, effects, etc., that were in the original MVP.

So, if I open a new project and do either:

  1. File, Manage movies, Import, it will look for an MVD file, not an MVP file. If you import it, you will get exactly what was in the MVP file, but only for the Movie that was exported to MVD, or
  2. Click on the popdown menu at the right of the movie tab and select Import movie. It will propose an MVD file, not an MVP file because you are looking for a file that contains only one movie.

If I select to import Summer.MVD, the new project will get a second tab called Summer, that contains everything that the Summer tab (movie) had in the Seasons.MVP project.

Here is the screen shot of the Seasons.MVP file with the Summer tab selected, meaning the Summer movie.

Here is a screen shot of a new project - 2018-03-02.MVP - with the Summer movie imported. See the 3 images? Exactly the same as the Summer movie in the Seasons project.

To repeat, an MVD file is a project file with one movie. It is not an exported rendered file like a .mov, .mp4 or .wmv file that can be viewed in something else. You cannot transform an MVD file into something else like you tried to do.

Hope this helps understand.

Hi John CB,

What you have explained in your post is just what I needed but was afraid to ask. I have read the definition of each element, be it extension, files, saving , exporting, you name it, but could not put it all together as you did.

You guys are a wonderful bunch !!!. The only frustration I have is that I cannot offer you anything in return for your kind assistance. On the other hand I am sure there are a lot of others like me that have learned a lot.

Thanks,
