I have Movie Edit Pro 2016: When I start encoding 4 video files for example, the encoding always stops after the first video file. I've clicked all the connect the files buttons and nothing has worked. What am I doing wrong?
Sorry for not responding in December. I drag 4 video files into the timeline. I want to save the combined files as a new video file. I click Export, File, as MP4, and ok to start encoding. I can see the progress at the bottom of the window. As the encoding gets to the end of the first video file, it stops encoding. It does this for any 2 or more files that I want to combine and save.
. . . . It does this for any 2 or more files that I want to combine and save.. . . .
Initially this sounds like that MEP 2016 is running in trial mode which limits the export to a few minutes maximum.
However given the age of the laptop this may be a source video issue - assuming all the video clips are from the same source, download and install MediaInfo, analyse one of the video clips and post the results from the Text view.
I am still unclear as to what file the two Media info analysis refer to.
As the first one has been named "Encode" it makes me think it is the result after your export of an imported file of which we are more interested. Can you analyse the original imported clip for us.
The "Encode" file appears to have been encoded to a Quicktime MP4 is this the format you wish to export all the clips to?
Do you have Quicktime installed on your machine?
The second file appears to be the other imported file? Was this originally a screen capture?
Please tell us the program version numbers as found in the top menu>Help>About.
The first Media info analysis refers to the first of two files that I had moved into the timeline of Movie Edit Pro and tried to save as a combined file with a different name. The encoding stopped at the end of the first file and didn't capture the second video file. These files were capture from an external USB video capture device from a dvd player. I transferred the files from the USB drive to the computer. Those are the original imported files that I used in Movie Edit Pro.
The second Media info analysis refers to a file captured from YouTube using OBS Studio (64 bit), version 26.1.1. I moved the file and a copy of it to the timeline of Movie Edit Pro to save as a combine file with a different name. It encoded both files. I was asked by Jeff to post the two files so that you all could compare the one that didn't work with one that worked.
Movie Edit Pro even encoded two files from the USB drive successfully before failing on two others from the USB drive. Yes I save all my videos in the MP4 format. It do not have Quicktime on my computer.
I personally think that is the problem. USB sticks or SD cards will have problems transferring files above a certain size in enough time for the program to handle for rendering. You really need to be using a USB 3 compatible hard drive, SSD or spinning disc, and not relying on memory sticks.
If you run task manager while you export you will probably see the performance of the memory stick max out. The program will try to both read and write to the stick while rendering and the speed and size of memory blocks needed is just not there and it's USB2 only.
I think this is a missing codec or codec configuration data issue and could be due to reduced support for Quicktime in Windows, or, more likely the fact that you do not have Quicktime installed on your PC.
The first file has a Quicktime Codec ID : isom ( qt ) the OBS file does not.
Where do you see this:-
I can see the progress at the bottom of the window. As the encoding gets to the end of the first video file, it stops encoding.
At the bottom of what window?
Why can you not tell us the version number of MEP2016 that you are running??
Have you reinstalled the program or OS recently?
Yes I save all my videos in the MP4 format.
Yes, but is that in a .mov (ie Quicktime) container, and both imports and exports?
When I save video files in MEP2016, you can see the progress of the encoding or rendering, whatever the term is at the bottom of the MEP2016 window. It shows how much time is left.
My version of MEP2016 is V9.0.1.60(C1).
No I haven't installed the program or OS recently.
You lost me with the last question. When I export my video files to be saved I choose the MP4 format in MEP2016.
Since the latest version of MEP is MEP 2021, which is version 20, there is no way at all that your version of MEP can be version 9 and yet be, apparently, 2016.
So, can you check the version and build numbers carefully, please!
. . . .missing codec or codec configuration data issue . . .
I agree however for a different reason - I suspect it is a changeover of codec from the successful file to the next - please post the MediaInfo data for the video file that is on the timeline immediately after the previous successful one.
John, I'm not sure what you are asking for but here we go. The first two file data is for the two files that encoded/rendered successfully. The second two are the two files that was unsuccessful. They all came from the same USB thumb drive which saved them as .MP4 files. These are the original files that I used in my MEP2016 timeline.
. . . . The second two are the two files that was unsuccessful. . . . .
Thanks those were the files I was asking about.
I can see nothing wrong with them that should cause the encoding, which takes us back to the hardware.
Have you tried copying the 4 files to your hard drive and then import them into a project and then exported as MP4 - to your hard drive not the USB thumb drive.
IMHO working from a thumb drive is a big issue as there is a lot of read/write activity when working with video and if the thumb drive fails it is terminal with total loss of data.
Also you keep calling the program MEP 2016, with the version number you gave, it is MEP 16 - which may be adding to your problem. Can you post a screenshot of the Help, About page and obscure the serial number.
. . . . My version of MEP2016 is V9.0.1.60(C1). . . . .
v9.0.1.60 - it is MEP 16, released in March 2010 and it is not compatible with Windows 10.
Exactly what I suspected! There is no progress line at the bottom of main program interface in MEP2016. In later versions the encoding progress comes up in a separate window in the middle of the screen.
If we are to help you effectively then you need to answer all questions that we ask whether you think they are important or not. Each responder can be following various different possibilities which come together to find a solution in most cases.
You lost me with the last question. When I export my video files to be saved I choose the MP4 format in MEP16.
.MP4 files can use different codecs and Mpeg4 can be in many different containers.
I am trying to figure out why the codec ID of your files says "qt" = Quicktime and whether you are deliberately capturing or exporting to a Quicktime codec as personally I would avoid anything to do with QT (Apple) due to problems in recent years with Apple and licensing their codecs to Windows users.
John, the 4 files were copied to the hard drive from the USB thumb drive. I then imported them into an MEP 16 project and attempted to export them as an MP4. It failed. Here is a screenshot of the help about page.
Peter, I'm not sure what you're getting at. If I told you that I see the encoding/rendering progress at the bottom of the screen then that is what I see. I'm not making this up. And I've tried to answer ever question that you all have asked so I'm not sure what you are insinuating. I don't know anything about codecs and containers. I would like to deal with John if it's ok with you.
You are using MEP 16, not MEP 2016. MEP 16 is now a very old version which is not fully compatible with Win 10 and so cannot be guaranteed to work "properly".
Peter refers to the fact that the encoding/rendering progress bar is a feature of MEP 16 but is not found in MEP 2016. He is not saying you "made it up", rather that it seems you still hadn't realised or accepted that you believe you are running a version of MEP which you clearly are not.
You say I've tried to answer every question that you all have asked. A very quick re-read of the whole thread produces this example: Do you have Quicktime installed on your computer? I have not been able to find an answer to that from you. A simple Yes or No answer would be quite sufficient.
You are clearly completely free to accept, or reject, any advice or guidance offered here but to suggest that Peter, who is a very experienced user of Magix software is insinuating anything is, frankly, wholly uncalled for. He is merely trying to help you to help us to help you.
It is perfectly understandable that you don't know anything about codecs and containers but these are very much the "bread and butter" of video playback, editing and export. The presence, or more likely the absence, of one or more of them on your computer could very likely be contributing to, or actually be the entire cause of the problems you are experiencing.
Jeff, I answered Peter's question in my response to his 5/18 response. It's the last sentence. I accept the facts and the guidance offered by your team. I've learned a lot in the these communications. I have been reluctant to upgrade my MEP because my old version, while not compatible with Windows 10, still does what I need it for. One day I'll take that leap of faith and upgrade it. I can get around my issue by overlapping video clips to the end of the previous clip. I just thought that there was something in MEP that I was missing that would connect the video files so I decided to ask someone. You guys have been nothing but helpful and are a great resource to the Magix community. Thanks again!
. . . . I can get around my issue by overlapping video clips to the end of the previous clip . . . .
That would suggest there is an issue with the end of clip/start of clip switch when decoding/encoding the video.
. . . . reluctant to upgrade my MEP because my old version . . . . One day I'll take that leap of faith and upgrade it. . . .
Do be aware that will also mean a new computer, the Dell laptop is not up to running MEP 2020 or 2021 - it is the absolute bare minimum for running the more modern versions of MEP and the performance will be less than satisfactory.
