Error Code SMPWrapper.DLL - PLEASE HELP

C_Scriptz wrote on 3/1/2014, 5:24 PM

I am using Magix and have done for many a year now. I have recently been having this issue with Magix Pro MX Premium - Version 18. I keep trying to export a video, after spending countless hours editing it. To find it keeps crashing with the Error code "SMPWrapper.DLL" PLEASE can somene assist me here? I've tried most things, from allowing the Cache to not be limited, to restarting my computer, and even copy/pasting onto a new project. Nothing seems to work! I've a very tight deadline for this video as my client has to show it to some important people and need the assistance as soon as possible!

I run a 6-core Asus computer widows 7, 32-bit 4gb computer. I'm no tech savvy person, apart from talking about cameras etc. So I hope this is the info you need!

This problem has started to occur most times now, having been a bugger on an actors show-reel I was editing and now this. So I'm quite worried. All my files are secure and my virus protection VERY good. There has never been a virus on this computer, nor come into contact with any virus prone memory sticks etc... Any advice?

Hi,

My first thought was that it seems like a corrupted project but you seem to have pursued that. After copying the entire original timeline to a new movie, did you also delete the original, save the project with a new name and restart?

And did you delete all the existing .h0 and .hdp files and restart?

It still does sound like a project issue IMO, so if you did all the above with no joy then I'd next be inclined to try methodical successive halving to see if you can isolate any corrupt object. Keep splitting the timeline roughly into two parts, save as Test01.mvp, retry, etc, etc.

An alternative approach to isolation would be to methodically re-open the automatically created backup files YourProject_BAK1.MV_, YourProject_BAK1.MV_, etc

Or, of course, if there is a section that is particularly complex (effects, fades, collages, etc) then home in on that first.

--------------------

I'm assuming that so far you've been reluctant to re-install, a hassle that's always good to avoid until it becomes a last resort IMO.

As this is a recent development, how about a system restore?

Bit of a longshot but might also be worth checking whether that DLL is corrupt in some way. On my XP 32-bit PC it's interesting that it seems to change significantly with each MEP version:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4019461/SMPWrapper-1.jpg

Its exact size here is 49.152 bytes (for 'Size' and 'Size on disk'.)

Here's a copy if you want to try substituting it:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4019461/SMPWrapper.zip

Unzip it and after renaming your existing file to say SMPWrapper.DLL.bak, move it into that folder and restart MEP. If it doesn't help or makes things worse, restore the original.

You might also try opening the Run box and entering sfc /scannow to re-register all the crucial Windows files.

But my money's still on a corrupt project.

Hi Terry,

I shall try those methods you've just placed at my disposal there, I thank you in advance. I shall firstly try the re-install, then go for the system restore. I'm curious as to find out how I would find out if my DLL is corrupt? How would I go about checking that?

Thank you Terry.

Chris

Update - I've just scanned the sfc/scannow option you mentioned, there's "no intergrity violations" so we're ok there :) I shall now try the SMPWrapper dropbox you mentioned :)

Terry,

I thank you kind sir. Currently after changing the DLL file, it is working! After a fourth saved file and restart. So I thank you. Hopefully it will continue to work, if not, I shall use that file again and repeat the process.

Thanks for your time! :)

Chris
