Error Message

Jack-Messmer wrote on 4/18/2022, 2:58 PM

After opening a file created on an earlier version of Movie edit Pro MX (MVP) the story line loads but when I attempt to play the story line I get an error message "cannot open waveform device ' Speaker (Realtek (R) Audio' for playback. There is not enough memory availble for this task...." How can I get this to function. Using Win 11 and have 32 gigs ram plus video card has 6 gigs.

I am using Magix Studio 2023, Computer is a Dell XPS 8940 with an intel 11th generation i9-11900 processor (8 core, 16M cache, 2.5-5.2 GHz). Win 11 home version 21H2 (OS BUILD 22000.63). 32 g RAM. SSD drive 1T with 700 Gig free and Secondary HDD 1T with 700 Gig free.. Graphics NVIDIA GTX 1660 Ti 6GB GDDR6.  Video clips, audio and photos stored on secondary drive.

I have limited computer experience. Have been using Magix products in creating home videos and for small group presentations. Have used primarily Movie Edit Pro11 and recently Movie Edit Pro Premium16.

@Jack-Messmer

Hi and welcome to the forum

. . . .  I get an error message "cannot open waveform device ' Speaker (Realtek (R) Audio' for playback. There is not enough memory availble for this task...." . . . .

Check that the audio device (soundcard) is not locked for sole use by another program eg a DAW or Music creation program that requires direct access to the sound card via ASIO.

There may also be some compatibility issues with the MX projects.

Try the following:

  1. Load the project but do not attempt to play it.

  2. Select File, Manage project, Export movie file, Magix movie file (*.mvd) an export the project with a new name.

  3. Start a new project

  4. Select File, Manage project, Import movie file, Magix movie file (*.mvd) and import the saved file from step 2

  5. Remove the empty timeline if required.

  6. Save the project with a new name, and continue working with this one.

The above procedure removes any old MX program settings that are embedded in the project file, and adds the new Movie Studio/Movie Edit Pro program settings, you may have to do this with other old MX projects.

I checked the settings, and it is set to allow apps and windows to use the speakers.

I then loaded the old MX version and exported it under a new name. Retrieved the new program with the import. When I tried to play it got the same error message.

Any other suggestions?

Jack

Hi

What is your computer specification? See this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full.

Do you get the same issue if you start a new project, add a video clip, with audio, to it and then play it on the timeline?

Hi John,

Thanks for getting back to me. Here are specs on the machine and software.

The computer is Dell XPS 8940'
11th gen. I-9 -11900 processor (8 core, 16M Cache,2.5 Ghz to 5.2 Ghz)
1 Terabyte SSD drive
NVIDIA GTX -1660 6GB ram

There is no sound card other than what is on the motherboard which may be a Realtec Codec (I'm guessing at this from the paperwork from Dell)

The operating system in Windows 11 Vers. 21H2 (OS Build 22000.613
Magix Movie Edi Pro Premium 16.0.1.22 (UDP3)

I tried what you suggested the first email to 1st import the old project which was generated on Video Deluxe MX Movie Edit Pro MX. After loading which appears to do successfully. I then exported with a new title. I then imported it back into Magix. I did not know how to remove the 2nd time line. Once again saved the project with a different name. Still got the same message when I opened it again that is  "cannot open waveform device ' Speaker (Realtek (R) Audio' for playback. There is not enough memory availble for this task...." . . . .

I did try and use some of the MTS and TAK files from the same media pool and these work as does the sound when I add it from my sound pool. So it appears to function when I start from scratch.

Hi Jack.

Clearly, I am not John, who I am sure will reply to you when he sees your post, but I wonder whether the problem you are experiencing has anything to do with the fact that you are running Windows 11 but with a version of MEP that is now five full builds behind? The latest version of MEP is 21.0.2.138.

I know that the latest version is certified to run under that OS but I'm pretty certain yours is not.

Hi Jack

A bit of a long shot, however try loading the problem project again, cancel the error message, then go into the Program settings, Playback tab and change the audio playback driver option to the alternate to what is currently set, ie if it is set to Direct Sound change it to Wave driver, or vice versa, save the project again then try playing back the timeline.

if that does not work, it may be time to raise a Support ticket.

. . . .  I did not know how to remove the 2nd time line . . . .

Click the small x at the end of the second timelines tab.

@emmrecs

Hi Jeff

I have MEP 2015 and 2016 running quite happily with no issues on Windows 11.

Thanks for that message. Reassuring to learn that Win 11 does not disable those earlier versions.

Hi John?

Well your final suggestion seems to have worked. First I removed all the sound associated with the video clips I could not find the "x" but I uncoupled the video from the sound in the 2nd time line and deleted each of the sound tracks.. I went to the settings for audio and changed from "wave driver" to "direct sound" At first nothing seemed to work and I got the message "Direct Sound Error - Out of Memory" Went back and tried the process all over again and when I changed to "direct sound" it worked, of course with no sound. I went back into the settings and changed it back to the original setting and it continued to work. Reloaded the original video and it worked fine. Can't say exactly what happened but it appears to be running fine without sound. I can fix that as these are underwater videos where I either turn down the sound track or erase them and then on another time line and music.

Thanks so much for your help.

Jack
