'...file cannot be read!'

mojoaudioguru wrote on 6/15/2018, 9:34 PM

After creating a menu for ANY and ALL projects on MEP 2018+, I come back to burn a DVD or BDR, and the menu "...cannot be read!" by MAGIX. I have to re-create a menu, once again. Does anybody know what's going on? This happens with ALL my projects. (And has happened to me before, on MEP 2017+, 2016+, and 2015+) My OS is Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit. Running a Kaby Lake i7-7700K CPU. (Overclocked at 4.7 GHz) With 12 gig of DDR4 RAM. On a Samsung EVO 850, 500 gig SSD. (With an additional 5 Terabytes of SATA HDD space) Utilizing the CPU's Intel Quick Sync / 630 graphics capabilities. Does anyone know why this occurs? I've reset the software's default settings 3 different times. Which doesn't help. I'm constantly re-creating menus for projects that have long since been finished. Does anyone have an idea? Please share. Thanks.

Hi

Are you making any changes to the DVD menu? If so please give details.

Have you cleaned/deleted the project folder?

I found that if I delete any of the files, MEP will complain it cannot find this and that and will not load correctly everything missing some parts.

I do not want to look at what has happened as I have moved MEP from at least 5 versions, and each time it will not load my old DVD projects done by older versions. There will be some transition/effects that are missing from version to version, all my Xara stuff in my old projects are no longer available in my new MEP, it complains and I do not know how to fix it ( Xara been removed) also some 3D animated Titles (was very nice in previous versions), transitions and effects. All old projects with those loads with plenty of gaps in between.... I do not want to even look into it as it would just take took much time & effort to recreate all of them....

Sorry for ranting.... MEP isn't the best in keeping your video memories in this case.

Johnebaker, I simply changed the audio in the menu, in order to reflect the content of the video. (A song that is actually in the video) However, this has also happened when I don't change a thing on the menu. I tried it with it's own music, intact. And the same thing has occurred. Wongck, I don't delete any files when a project is still in the que. Once the project is accepted by the client, (He / she gets an HVEC version thru a cloud or google drive, in order to review it for typos, misspellings, objectionable scenes, etc.), it's then finished and rendered. I make a 'working copy' of it prior, in order to check the quality, on both DVD and BDR. I then burn the master, after any corrections or acceptance. And this is when I get the menu cannot be read issue. It isn't until the final master is created, that I either archive the complete project on an external 3 TB HDD, (For future reference), and delete any project files in the SSD drive holding those files, in order to make room for the next project. It's frustrating that I have to continue re-creating a menu, every time I want to burn a new copy. I need to find out what causes this to happen, so that I can remedy it, and move on. Any ideas, gentlemen? BTW, I am not making a DVD or BDR with the stored project files, but with the actual project that still exists within MEP 2018+ saved project files. Although, I'm sure this would or will happen, when I attempt to re-install any of those archived files, in order to burn another copy.

Hi

Thanks for the info.

. . . . I come back to burn a DVD or BDR, and the menu "...cannot be read!" . . . . It's frustrating that I have to continue re-creating a menu, every time I want to burn a new copy. . . .

When you come back to burn another copy, you should get the following dialog appear - this one is for when reburning a DVD, BD is very similar

Which options do you select?

I always select the 2 rewrite options and Encode all - however, I burn all my test discs on rewritable discs (DVD-RW or BD-RE).

Once I have a good burn to rewritable disc, and the video is as required, I never use MEP to burn the master or further copies.

I copy the good rewritable disc to a permanent master disc and make further copies from that if required using Nero.

Johnebaker, I always select "use all." Although, since building a new computer and having 'Hardware Acceleration' abilities once again, the process is very fast, I don't want to go thru the rendering process, again. I just employ what's already been completed. This works great, when having to duplicate more copies for clients. (Usually as high as 50 BDRs / DVDs, at any given time)

I use to do exactly that, with Nero and a re-writable DVDR / BDRW, with earlier versions of MEP. But, this way is much faster, and less labor intensive. As a professional videographer / editor, I have be able to knock out 2-3 projects per week. Otherwise, no diapers and formula for the kiddies. ;) I just can't understand why MEP 2018+ isn't saving the menu file correctly. I don't think that by just changing the audio, (Or, in some cases the video clips shown in the menus), makes that much of a difference. In fact, there are some menus that I don't even bother using, because modified or not, this glitch still occurs. Any information about why this happens with the MEP software, (And a possible solution), would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your reply and suggestions.

I have to agree with this comment, some menu templates exhibit some 'instability'. The best one I have found to use, and withstands modification well, is the 'Red Smoke' template.

This would suggest that you are using going through the Disc menu burn process rather than using the File, Burn CD/DVD, Burn copy of an already created disc to create the copies needed.

The 'Burn copy of an already created disc' burns the existing DVD or BD files that were rendered on your final burn by MEP. These are to be found in the sub folders of the Disc images folder location specified in the programs settings.

When I needed to produce multiple copies (though not as many as you do), I used multiple burners with Nero.

I've never used that part of MEP, with the exception of re-introducing an old project, into MEP for further updates / post production. In my newly built tower, I have 4 BDR burners, that are all activated via a software created by a colleague, that allows me to burn 4 discs at once. (Using MEP) I used to do the same with Nero, but since building the new computer, I haven't reinstalled Nero.
