File not found? I saved it in Magix. Where did it go?

boca wrote on 5/6/2014, 4:25 PM

I save my show in Magix.  When I went to open it, it says file not found.  Then at the bottom of the pop up it says, to skip, skip all, folder or cancel.  Only 6 of 136 files loaded ( I believe only 6 pictures loaded of the 136 I have in the show).  When I click on the "X" the smaller number goes up...7 of 136, 8 of 136.  I can't get the entire file I save to load.

Later that same day, I got an error message saying " At the moment the database only contains a few entries.  If you wish to add new entries to the database, please start the corresponding photo scan prgram or music scan program."  What does that mean?

THANK YOU TO ANYONE WHO CAN HELP!

Hi

Did you actually copy the files to your internal hard drive before importing them to MEP? It is possible that they were on a memory card when you imported them to the timeline and now you have removed the memory card from the PC so the program can not see them. The same would apply to an external hard drive which you may have unplugged.

The database is created by a couple of Magix programs Photo manager and Muffin Music finder which can search your PC for all photo and Music files and and make them visible in the Import Tab in the Mediapool of MEP.

Hi,

Could you please tell us which version of Movie Edit Pro (MEP) that you are using, your operating system. (Windows 7?), some computer specifications, and exactly what you are trying to do? We can't see your computer or what you are doing. Ss has taken a guess at what you are trying to do. Are you trying to import photos from a camera?

Did you read the Quick Start part near the beginning of the manual? You should so that you can use the jargon to converse with us.

You say that you saved the files in Magix. Which files? The photos or the MEP project? Magix is a company. Movie Edit Pro is the program (Magix makes a couple of dozen different programs), and your computer is where files are saved to. When MEP is installed it creates folders for various uses. In MEP, press on Y to open the Program settings, click on the Folder tab and you will see where MEP places the files. You can then navigate to the folders using Windows Explorer to see what files are in these folders.

Can you please answer the questions posed in browj2's post (the one immediately before this one)?  AND, give a lot more specific detail about where exactly on your computer you ahve chosen to save these "objects/photos" to which you refer.

And no, transferring the project to another computer is most unlikely to help!  It is quite possible that you would then find that ALL files are "not found"; the actual "project" file, assuming all this refers to Movie Edit Pro, has an extension of .mvp and contains ONLY data which tells the program where to "find" the files it needs and how to "handle" them; to emphasise the above, any ".mvp" file contains NO "objects/photos" or anything else which is part of the source material for the project.

As you have been told, the MEP project file only contains information as to the filename and location of your photos. It does not contain the photos or source video files. When you reopen a project (mvp), MEP searches for the photo and video files. It they are not in the same location or they are not available, then MEP will tell you it can't find them.

Are your source files located on your C drive? If not, where are they? If you are using an external drive or an SD storage card, or a USB storage key, then when you reboot your computer, the drive letter may not be the same, in which case MEP will not be able to locate the files. Check this and report back to us.

I'm sorry but you are still not telling us where you are saving the "objects/photos" that are used in your "movie".  Without that information it is impossible to be more helpful to you.  The location where you save the .mvp file is, in this case, much less important.

So, where EXACTLY on your computer are the photos etc. that are used in your project?  To repeat, THEY ARE NOT STORED IN THE .MVP FILE.

Hi

. . . . Someone has told me that because I'm on Windows XP, and it's no longer supported by microsoft that may be the issue. . . .

This is not the cause of the issue.

Additional to JohnCB's comment about external drives and USB storage key / memory stick / thumb drive.

Did you have all the images or video used in the project copied to a folder or folders on the computer hard drive before you added anything to the timeline?

If not where did you get them from as you added them to the timeline?

John

Hi

All I had to do was open the folder the pictures where originally saved in and all of the objects started to flood my presentation.

Do you mean that when the dialog saying "skip, skip all, folder..." appeared you clicked the button saying "Folder"?

This is the correct procedure to relink the files with the project and if they had been moved to another folder or drive then you would navigate via this button to the folder they had been move to - then all would appear also.

Not sure why the link would have become disconnected through the crash but I think I have experienced the need to do a relinking in the past. Good to see you are up and running.

Tip: - If you have really lost track of where your picture, etc. files are stored and want to see the complete folder paths to all the files in your open project  you would go to the "Movie Settings" window using the shortcut key "E" and choose the second Tab > Movie information and scroll down and you will see the path to every file used in the movie.
