FileCache

CurtisMovi wrote on 10/18/2020, 1:24 AM

I have a question about file contents, specifically there is a large 2 GB file, with repeated images in it called the FileCache folder. It is located at the following location:

In the Magix Projects folder,
then the Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium folder
there is a folder titled, ShopManager_Videodeluxe26_premium,
within this folder is a folder titled FileCache.

This is the folder which is 2 GB in size and has 79 thousand images in it arranged in blocks of 120 each identical images.

images have names like, (2ftcUS44RHezUU7pyhgZzg), and then all the way up to (2ftcUS44RHezUU7pyhgZzg_99), then next gibberish title image and they are like cartoon images and photo images, etc..

Questions.
1.) Was my install messed up and it repeatedly copied the same images 119 times?
2.) Can I delete these, what would it affect, the DVD maker or something like that because all I do is edit video.
3.) Can I delete some of them, as in leave the main 1st image for directory purposes I guess if ever launch say 'DVD Maker' is not nothing there.
4.) What is the "ShopManager_Videodeluxe26_premium?" not familiar with it been using Magix for a time.
5.) Why, just why 79k images?

Really, all I want to do is free up space if I can I have a SSD harddrive and not wanting to waste 2 GB of space.

Hi

This cache is for the Store and it does repeat download the same images, this has been reported to Magix in the Nov 2019 - see this long topic starting here, however so far nothing came of it.

Please report it again, you can empty the cache, however the images will start downloading again as soon as you start the program again and build up over time.

Hi, thanks for the replay. Thinking I might have to have contact Magix open up a ticket request on this.

I deleted the filecache again and rebooted got 2.8k pics downloaded after reboot again, then next boot up to 5 now today the filecache was at 8.5k so...

I read the other post and saw the part about "you can disable the store downloader" but I can't locate the widget or app that the post is referencing. I am using Magix Movie Edit Pro 2020. That other post is also about some version of Magix Music Maker.

Anyway, I checked the c:/ drive, and Program Files folder and nothing recognizable there in the Magix folder nor in my Documents "Magix Projects" ...on to shopmanager... folder which is the container for the filecache folder. Don't see what to delete or disable.

Appreciate a file, widget, app name and or step by step on how to resolve this issue.

Thanks,

Hi

. . . . . but I can't locate the widget or app that the post is referencing. . . . .

If you are referring to Magix Connect/Network Sync etc it is now called Update Notifier, or Magix Cloud Import - if you do not use Camera MX (Android app) or use OneDrive or Google Drive for media transfer/storage then you can uninstall it, however it has nothing to do with the Shop filecache.

Was this issue ever resolved? I'm having the same problem, and looking closely I see that MEP seems to make another copy of each .jpg file the first time I open the program each day. I noticed it when backing up my Documents folder and it was copy a whole lot of small files I didn't recognize.

Thanks for the reply. That's too bad. How about a workaround? Would any of these work?

Change the location of that cache folder to somewhere outside my Documents. Is there a setting for this?

Run MEP from batch file that deletes the contents of that folder after exiting the program.

or

Use the task scheduler to delete it once a week or once a month.

johnebaker wrote on 3/16/2021, 7:17 AM

@FunkyB

I clear the cache out about once every 3 months - by that time is is about 100 - 150 MB in size.

I have not tried to change the location of the cache, and cannot see any advantage in doing so as a major update may revert it back the the original location.

I would prefer to use Task scheduler to run a small batch file monthly.

There are program settings to change the directories for various project elements, but I can't find one for temp or cache files.

I guess I'll make a batch file to run with the task scheduler. I also added the filecache folder to the exclusion list in my backup program. I'll try that and see how it goes.
