Format for 8mm film transfer

I am seeking advice on what format 8mm film should be when transferred to DVD etc. I wish to be able to edit the results in Magix Edit Pro Premium. The firm I'm thinking of using to do the transfer state they can do it in any format file extn. Your suggestions would be welcome. Many thanks

Further to my question re the format to be able to edit in Magix, I have been told by the transferring people that their default format is mp4 (H.264 compressed,1920x1080.) Would this be OK or should I request a different one? If anyone can advice me I would be most grateful.

This is fine, however you do need to ask about the limitations of scanning 8 mm film ie:

quality achievable - if this can be related to VHS / DVD it gives a better understanding
are they carrying out post processing to reduce the 'graininess' of the image
if the image will be cropped to fit 16:9 or be pillar boxed (black bars to left and right), it must not be stretched to fit.
scan method used - this can impact on the next item
the final framerate of the mp4 - eg Regular 8mm has a framerate of 16fps, Super 8 between 18 and 24 fps
