Further to my question re the format to be able to edit in Magix, I have been told by the transferring people that their default format is mp4 (H.264 compressed,1920x1080.) Would this be OK or should I request a different one? If anyone can advice me I would be most grateful.

HI

. . . . mp4 (H.264 compressed,1920x1080.) . . . .

This is fine, however you do need to ask about the limitations of scanning 8 mm film ie:

  • quality achievable - if this can be related to VHS / DVD it gives a better understanding
  • are they carrying out post processing to reduce the 'graininess' of the image
  • if the image will be cropped to fit 16:9 or be pillar boxed (black bars to left and right), it must not be stretched to fit.
  • scan method used - this can impact on the next item
  • the final framerate of the mp4 - eg Regular 8mm has a framerate of 16fps, Super 8 between 18 and 24 fps
