In the middle of making a movie, the whole program froze, I can only get out of it through alt/control/delete. How can I get back into it, without losing all my work.

Providing you did not change the auto backup schedule you should have auto saved backups which you can reload after ending the frozen program, at best you will have lost any changes you made in the last 10 minutes before the freeze.
I would also advise you restart your computer - Windows button, Power, Restart (not shutdown) .
When you re-open MEP start a new project then select File, Load backup project - you should then be presented with a list of recent auto saves of the project, try loading the latest one first - use the date/time not the backup number., if that fails try the next previous backup and so on, save the successfully loaded project backup with a new filename immediately.
