Frustrating Takes puzzle

terrypin wrote on 1/19/2014, 4:35 PM

This is a really weird one. Can anyone get similar behaviour in MEP 2014 please?

The MP4 plays fine inside or outside MEP 2014. FWIW, the 5 objects to its left are AVIs, average size about 600 MB. The other Take, made much earlier, behaves correctly. But somwhow this MP4 take has collected stuff from earlier in the timeline as well!

Edit: Now found that every video object in track 1 does the same when saved as a Take!

I've been testing this further. As you see below, I was able to consistently reproduce the corrupted take with any movie clip.

I think this is possibly another manifestation of what I called the obscure and difficult to reproduce 'false memory' bug I've formally reported several times before. The first was 14 months ago:

http://www.magix.info/uk/mep-17-mx-2013-sizing-display-bug.forum.883613.html

And the most recent last October.

http://www.magix.info/uk/mep-2013-and-other-false-memory-bug-remains.forum.1041384.html

On the other hand, the way this instance occurs only folowing deletion of the audio track is a new aspect.

Anyway, I doubt if anyone can reproduce it. I can't do so myself with a fresh project. The particular project has somewhow clearly become corrupted, possibly due to some sort of 'memory scrambling', and only extreme measures can then be used to recover.

Hi Terry

Sorry cannot reproduce that here at all - everything works how it should.

Now if I could only find the cause of my issue with MEP2014 ! !

Hi Terry

. . . .What was your 2014 problem post? . . . .

Have not posted the problem until finished exhaustive testing, it relates to a very large image - a 9000 px * 9000px map of Europe, which weighs in at 127Mb, -  with keyframe movements.

Hi John,

Yes, that's a BIG map by any standards! I'll happily parallel your testing on my modest XP (32) PC if you can get the file to me by email or upload. Even better, a ZIP via File > Backup > Copy project and media would get me on the same hymn sheet.

Hi Terry

I have solved the problem with the 'big map'.

I remade the map by cropping the original to a smaller (!) size of 9600 * 7950 ( 103 Mb ) and it loads correctly without crashing MEP 2014.

Hi Terry,

I didn't attempt to replicate your problem. However, since you and John brought up the subject of maps, I posted separately what I have been looking at with Vasco da Gama. Unless you have solved your Heroglyph problems for your hiking routes, you may want to take a look at VdG. You probably have version 5 installed. Take a look at my other post and what I did, quick and dirty:

I had feedback from Ralf that he was able to replicate the Takes problem and has documented it for the developers.

But it doesn't appear related to my other more obscure issue caused by external editing. His view was that editing with Photo Editor would avoid it (which I'm sure is true, as that is integrated with MEP).  But no solution for me as I've never become comfortable with that program. As we've discussed before, it's a pity that despite specifying an alternative such as PaintShop Pro in Program Settings > Folders, MEP can not use it for integrated editing.
