GoPro 360 videos not showing in video pool

I've been using Magix MEP for over 15 years (amateur stuff like my kid's sports and most recently, my drag racing). I've still got Magix MEP MX Plus installed but it was bombing on me frequently - just clicking the Effects tab. Just a few hours ago, I grudgingly updated to Movie Studio 2023 Platinum.

I've just recently retired and got a GoPro 360 as a gift. I've recorded several videos and have exported them to my desktop. I want to start editing the 360 videos but the video pool shows nothing in the folder. I can see the files in Explorer and can play them using the GoPro Player.

Hi.

Assuming you are recording in the GoPro 360 file format - ie the file extension is .360 - then this format is not supported by Movie Studio directly and needs converting to a suitable format that the software supports.

The GoPro player can be used for this.

Thank you for your quick response.

Yup, that's exactly the format it's in. I suspected the sales advertising pitch wasn't up to snuff when I read it. Basically, "Sure, you can edit 360 videos". But I felt I had to upgrade anyway.

I'll look further into the GoPro Player's options for exporting. If I find what I'm looking for I'll come back and report it so others that are having the same problem can benefit.

Hi

. . . .  I suspected the sales advertising pitch wasn't up to snuff when I read it. . . .

The software can edit 3D and 360° video after is has been converted to a standard format, the problem arises, and this is a common occurrence with some camera manufacturers, with using 'custom' codecs and file formats which often come attached with licensing conditions which can be very expensive.

There have been many users in the forum having issues with video which has required a plug-in, converting or installing Quicktime for Windows which is now old, is no longer supported by Apple, and does not support some modern MOV file formats internal codecs.

Hi

After some testing with a GoPro 360 sample file, using the GoPro player to export the video with the settings as shown below - these will import into Movie Studio.

If you need the audio turn off the World lock and Horizon level options above.

You will be asked to turn on the 360 view and switch to 360° editing in MMS 2023 - do so.

Do note: to get the best performance out of your PC you will need to:

Use proxy files - the option to do this is in the Project settings.

Turn on the Preview monitor settings to use lower resolution and framerate ie click the Lightning symbol bottom right corner of the Preview monitor - it is blue when on.

Ensure that the drivers for the Intel HD4600 iGPU are version 15.40.42.5063 and not 15.40.44.5107 - if they are .5107 you need to revert them back one version - see here.
