had to reinstall new windows 10-having issues with "activation"

Andrew-Corner wrote on 11/25/2020, 2:26 PM

Hey there,

I REALLY wish I could speak to a human at this point, getting very frustrated.

Long story short, I had installed windows 10, lost it, had to buy a new copy and reinstall the "Movie Edit Pro Plus" I had purchased with my first W10 copy, and now I'm having all kinds of issues trying to "activate" programs because it says I've already done it, except I DID do it on the previous W10 build, but not this one.

I'm not that tech savvy, so this is giving me huge headaches. I just want to get back to work on something I was editing before, and have all the features unlocked.

And on THAT note, I just installed a new GPU, and now when I run movie edit pro, I cannot see my video I was cutting up in the preview, but I can hear it. And I've been looking for an hour to try and figure out why and not having much luck, so I tried to do the Mpeg-4 Codec activation, and it says my activation code is incorrect. I know it's not my video card because I can see it when I just run the MP4 on VLC, no problem.

PLEASE. I have little time to get done what I was working on, and all these setbacks are stressing me out. Instead of learning to use the program, I'm spending all my time just trying to make it work FFS.

Thanks in advance,

Hi

Just been there and done the same after updating to Win Pro trashed the PC.

Browse to magix.com - click the small head and shoulders icon top right of the home page and login with your email address and password .

Go to My Products

For all your registered product(s) that you have had to re-install, locate the entry and select Show more details

Deactivate the entry for the old Windows installation.

You should now be able to activate the installation.

Tip: if you have not already done so, ensure you have reinstalled all the motherboard manufacturers drivers, and graphics drivers for the GPU you have installed.

I had an issue with the Microsoft Realtek drivers only 2 of 4 input/outputs showed up - appears the drivers are 'dumbed down'.

Hi John,

Thanks for the reply. Yes W10 crashed my PC too, which is how I got into this mess, but whatever.

I did as you suggested. I removed, and actually had to uninstall the program so I could reinstall and reregister - success on that at least. However. The video is still not showing in preview or on my timeline like it was before.

As for the new card, yes, I downloaded and installed all the right drivers as I run on a projector, and I had issues trying to get the new card to fit into my projection parameters, so I had to do it just to be able to do that, and yes they're the right ones for sure - Nvidia.

That should not be the problem for the motherboard, because as I said previously it worked with my older on-board AMD GPU, so I don't know what else it could be? Any ideas?

Thanks again.

Hi Andrew.

You did not give your PC specs. If we could have your graphics card information and CPU info it could help us diagnose potential setup suggestions. By the correct drivers John means not the Game ready drivers but the latest Intel DCH Graphics driver and nvidia graphics driver.

I just tried to import a new video to MMEP and it said there's an issue with the video resolution.

Specifically:

"the active movie has a resolution of 1920x1080(16:9), 29.97fps. The file "..." has a resolution of 1600x895 (16:9), 15fps. If you wish to adjust the movie and video monitor settings to the imported file, click on "adjust".".

Which I did, but it still did not fix the issue.

I tried another downloaded video and got:

"the active movie has a resolution of 1920x1080(16:9), 29.97fps. The file "..." has a resolution of 640x360 (16:9), 30fps. If you wish to adjust the movie and video monitor settings to the imported file, click on "adjust".".

I suspect this has something to do with the resizing I had to do with the Nvidia card to get it to fit into my screen....? I don't know. This is all French to me. I speak a little, but that's it.

Hi Andrew.

Assuming you are running a version of Movie Edit Pro 2021 then.

I'm not familiar with the Radon HD graphics spec so I can't comment on that but your nvidia card is not fully Direct X 12 compatible only being able to fully run on Direct X 11 so while it may run in Windows it may not be giving MEP the full functionality it needs.

So as a starting point try doing this in the program settings.

Just to see if you get basic functionality. If that works then check program settings and please take a screen shot using the print screen key and saving as a jpg in paint to post here.

If it does work you could also try altering the following settings to see if that improves performance.

Please substitute the words 'If the Intel GPU is not showing' to read 'If the Radon GPU is not showing'.

Let us know how you get on or if I'm wrong and you are not running Movie Edit Pro 2021, then which version are you running please?

Ray.

Hi Andrew.

Reading through your last comment some more.

If you get a warning as you did with the 'The file "..." has a resolution of 1600x895 (16:9) If you wish to adjust the movie and video monitor settings to the imported file, click on "adjust".".

I would advise not clicking on the 'adjust' as at that resolution you could easily trip up Movie Edit Pro with the amount of ram you have which is minimal. At 4K resolutions my system often gets into using more than 12GB of ram. I'm exporting a project right now and am using 11.8GB of system ram and 3.4GB of graphics card vram. As well as resolutions a lot of text or effects plug-ins can also increase ram usage.

I know 1600x895 is less than HD but decreasing the image size probably won't help. It is never good practice to mix frame rates either but should not cause irretrievable problems.

Also why did you have to adjust the screen resolution? What is your screen resolution?

I confess to being a bit confused.

Ray.

Yes, Move Edit Pro Plus 2021 is what the intro screen says.

It totally worked, thanks Ray!

I was about to give up and take the card out and just suck up the loss, so, thanks! 😉

I've already gone ahead and made the other change you suggested. Also seems to be working smoothly, I'll post later if I have any issues with my virgin voyage.

Can I just say how appreciative I am that I got the help I was looking for so quickly!~

Thanks again and take care,

Andrew

Andrew-Corner wrote on 11/25/2020, 6:15 PM

just saw your last comment. Again, I don't know how to answer that, over my pay grade and base knowledge.

I'll go ahead and pick up some more ram for the future, any you recommend?

CubeAce wrote on 11/25/2020, 6:33 PM

@Andrew-Corner

Hi Andrew.

Don't worry about extra ram yet as I don't know what resolutions you are working at. If you do go for another 8gig which is a safer starting point for video editing, use the same as whatever is already in the system if possible. Make, type, memory size, and speed. There should be a sticker on the ram telling you the specs but if you have never done it before look up how to take out and put back ram. Also make sure the PC is turned off when you do it. Make sure you put the ram back into the correct slot. It will be one slot away from where the other one is seated and have the same colour holder. That is important, as well as putting it back in the correct way around and making sure it is seated properly again.

One last thing that could help MEP run a bit smoother.

Go to Windows Settings \ System \ and scroll down to Graphics Settings and open. Then under 'Graphics performance preference' use the 'Choose an app to set preference' and with the box underneath set to 'Desktop app',open the Browse dialogue box and navigate to Local Disc C: \ Program files \ Magix \ Movie Edit Pro (whichever version you have got) 2021 and scroll down the list until you come to 'Videodeluxe.exe and click on the application icon. This should bring up MEP and will show up as MAGIX Video deluxe (whatever version). Make sure it is et to 'Let Windows Decide'.

That may yield yet some further performance improvement for you.

Ray.

@Andrew-Corner

Hi

To clarify some points -

  1. If your project setting is 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) and using Proxy* files, option is in the project settings and the lightning symbol bottom right of the preview monitor is turned on (blue) then you should be able to work smoothly with source video with a resolution of the same or less with your computer specification - it may struggle with Collages and Picture in Picture effects.

    * Proxy files are lower resolution less compressed video files which are created by MEP if you have the option turned on and will add to disc space usage, they are only used for editing, on exporting the 'real' video files are used. Once the project is finished end exported/ disc created you can delete the proxy files.

  2. If you have 4K (UHD) or greater video source files then this is where the computer will begin to struggle, insufficient RAM and because there is no hardware acceleration (HWA) available means smooth playback within the program.

  3. Ideally the project resolution setting should match the output setting, it is OK to export to lower resolution video then the project is set for, however exporting to a higher resolution may introduced some minor discrepancies in the positioning of items such as titles, and collage/PIP layouts

Export times for MP4, AVCHD and HEVC will be extended possibly up to 10x the length of the video on the timeline depending and what effects have been applied and you have used collages.

@CubeAce

. . . . . I know 1600x895 is less than HD . . . .

It is greater - HD is 1280 x 720 often called 720p
