Help- can't make titles work in MEP-MX 11.0.6.4(UDC2)

Hi-  I've tried for an hour to get even the most basic text/title to appear, and no matter what, nothing appears in the output.  Is the text/title feature broken in this version?  The interface is very non-intuitive...

Also, the resizing gadget/method is definitely broken, clicking on any of the 8 'handles' instantly clobbers the title text window and opens a new (zero-pixel-sized) resizing box that can be resized, but also instanly disappears when the mouse button is released (having no effect in any case).

I'd like to create basic, simple crawling text, but thought stationary text would be easier.  no luck yet.

I have the actual "Video editing made simple with MAGIX Movie Edit Pro" book in my lap right now, but its not helping with my little task.

thanks for any suggestions, I suspect I need to change my mental model of video ediing to fit with the MEP way of doing things- maybe turning the monitor upside-down will help  ;)

Hi Ron,

Do as I've shown here and report back:

As the MX interface seems alien to you, I assume you must have had a very old version before?

Thanks. Your stand-alone example worked fine, but when I went back to my project it still would not work until I stumbled upon the apparently important step of selecting a clip first.  ...very strange...

I seem to be able to get what I need done now, however I still find the interface unpredictable as sometimes it will open/create an overlapping title object when I don't want one, yet when I want one, I can never make it happen.  ;)

Thanks again for the hint.

This is my first exposure to Magix editors.  I was once proficient with an OS9 Mac-based NLE system more geared to on-air programming and documentaries than these windows-based programs seem to be.  MEP-mx seems to be able to do what I need, just gotta re-learn indirect methods of  working within their model of the universe.

Ron,

Magix methods and Magix documentation are, well, often sort of Magic! It doesn't help that often there are a couple of alternative methods to the same end. You asked for some 'simple crawling text' and assuming I've interpreted that correctly this is how I'd do it:

Rather than Terry's method of selecting a clip first I'd go, not to the 'General' section of the title window, but to 'Standard'. That's not a magic choice, I know from experience that that's where there is a suitable template.

Here you can add a title to the timeline by dragging a template to the timeline whether or not there are any visual objects there at all. MEP 2014 also has an add at the current play cursor position option but I don't have your MX version to check it. Beside placing the title object, the window also goes back to the 'General' setting where you can edit the text and make other adjustments. Because my choice was the 'Ticker 1' template the animation section is filled in with 'From right to left' and 5.0 second duration. If you select the title object you can also go to the 'Advanced' setting window for more customization.

Regards,

Carl
