Hitfilm lightning - starting point for y -value gets huge with scrub

CyberMikeFilmer wrote on 12/24/2018, 4:29 PM

In using Hitfilm lightning from superhero pack, the y-value of the starting point grows bigger until the program crashes.

Steps: 1) lightning effect is applied, 2) a keyframe is set so that the endpoint of the lightning can be moved, and 3) scrub the video and watch the value rapidly grow until overflow and crash.

I also noticed same thing would happen with Laser beam.

Side note: it was a year ago when I first did the lightning effect, so I'm having trouble remembering, I thought at the time there were sliders that controlled the start and end positions. Does anyone know if I imagined it or did I use a different lightning effect last year?

Thanks for info.

I don't have the Superhero pack so I can't try your reproduction steps, but this sounds exactly like the animation problem I reported here...

https://www.magix.info/us/forum/problem-animating-hitfilm-gleam-effect-and-other-effects--1216558/

I have passed it on to support and they said they could reproduce it and are looking into it.

They said they would have to determine if the problem was with the effect or with MEP. I have been able to do it in Vegas Pro without problems though (which is still available for $25 for 20 more hours at the time I am writing this through the HumbleBundle).

Thanks for the reply. Hard to believe a bug like this is existing beyond a week.

Many thanks for the tip on Humblebundle. I did indeed purchase the bundle and am keeping my eye on that site.

Has anybody heard if there's been any progress? I haven't seen any patches.

In ability to fix bugs is the main reason not to continue using a product. Nine months is a long time to leave an expensive add on useless.

@CyberMikeFilmer

I suggest that you raise a ticket. This is not the only bug and some of the bugs on my list for VPX also pertain to MEP. The HitFilm problems just increased with the VPX update issued today. I expect that the next update to MEP will also include these additional problems unless several users raise tickets.

I did open a ticket, also opened one with Hitfilm. The solution seems to be beyond the programmers.
