How can you get sound when previewing a clip from soundpool before importing it. I tend to just get visual unless it's an audio file or has previously been imported?

I guess it depends on the version of Movie Edit Pro.

I have Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus, when I click on a audio file (Soundpool or from the hard-drive), I can select it in the file manager or Media Pool then press play on the preview monitor to listen to it before I move it into the arrangement.

I seem to be able to get sound clips but when I preview video clips that haven't been imported I only get the visual element rather than the sound and visual. But I can preview audio clips and they all play. So  I can only view without sound unless I import them into the progect. It all seems very strange; it's as if their is a mute button that is in place until they are imported. What I would like to do is watch the clip with sound as well as visual before making a choice as to whether I import. I tend to import from my hard drive with media that I've usually imported via windows rather than a MEP !5 record format.

When I open my Movie Edit Pro (v17 Plus), and I am in the Media Pool/File Manager area, I can click on a video file which is residing on my hard drive, when I click it once, my play button under the Preview Monitor blinks. When I press the play button I get the video and the audio associated to that video.

I am not sure what would cause yours not to behave the same way...

I do not believe the software worked like I mentioned in the Movie Edit Pro 15, It did in 16 and now in 17.

The method john-auvil described for previewing the sound of video clips works in MEP14+ as well. It seems necessary however to have 'Extract sound from videos' ticked under 'File' >> 'Program settings' >> 'Video/Audio' tab. I'd alway thought that was only for imports from camera etc.
