How come I don't hear my Roland Juno 1 synthesizer playback

Hi everyone,

I need help recording my sounds from my Roland Alpha Juno 1 synthesizer. It's a midi connector, so I decided to buy a MIDI to USB interface from Hosa Technology and I plugged it from the MIDI IN connector to the MIDI OUT behind my Roland synthesizer. Everything went well intill I went to the MIDI editor of the keyboard, I didn't hear anything when I press the keys only when I switch my headphones from my speakers to my synthesizer I hear the response. How can I hear the sounds coming through my speakers instead of swtiching my headphones to my synthesizer?

I run a Windows 7 Ulimate 32-bit and I'm using Magix Music Maker 17

Thanks guys

It is not entirely clear what you're trying to say.  However, it sounds like you (and so many other people lately) are confused about MIDI.

Plugging your Alpha Juno 1 into your computer using a MIDI/USB connection means you intend to use the Juno as a MIDI controller.  As such, you will ONLY be able to use the Juno to play the VSTi's (virtual instruments) within Music Maker.  First, you would have to be sure the Juno is selected as the MIDI input device in the Program Settings.

MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is a computer control language.  MIDI does NOT transmit audio.  To hear and record the voices from your Juno on your computer, you would need to connect the AUDIO outputs on the Juno to the Line-IN on your audio interface or soundcard.

But hey...thanks for at least attempting to provide us with some good information.  That's a lot more that we usually get.

Thanks man I understand now, I'm new to the whole the new thing about these connections. Is there a wire I need to buy for me to connect my Juno to the Line-IN?

"Is there a wire I need to buy for me to connect my Juno to the Line-IN?"

Yes.  Since you didn't say, I am assuming your Line-IN jack accepts a mini 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo (TRS - tip/ring/sleeve) plug.  So, you would need a Y-adapter cable (or a combination of cables and adapters) that go from one 1/8" mini stereo plug to TWO standard 1/4" mono (TS - tip/sleeve) phone plugs.

The 1/8" mini plug goes to the Line-IN jack on your computer and the two 1/4" phone plugs go to the stereo output jacks on the back of your Alpha Juno 1.
