How to stop Magix re-opening itself everytime after you shut it down?!

Apollo89x wrote on 5/18/2020, 1:25 AM

Everytime I close down MEP, approx 10-seconds later it re-launches itself!

I created a topic about this 2-weeks ago, at that time it was assumed this was occuring because I had opened multiple sessions of MEP at the same time (which the software apparenty is incapable of handling), and so that was causing the issue.

Whilst I myself assumed that was correct, I haven't even used MEP for the past 5+ days, but then today when I try opening just a single session of it, thact exact same error with the program is still occuring again! *_*

But so please does anyone know how to fix this error with the software?

Hi

Assuming the computer is running Windows 10 this article may be of help.

Hello and thanks, however that article/issue would be if MEP relaunched itself after I shut down my entire laptop...

That is not the issue which I am facing though | Instead when I close MEP, it re-launches itself approx 5-6 seconds later.

Hi Apollo.

You should use Task Manager to monitor what happens when you open MEP and subsequently shut it down. Look for lingering instances or multiple instances of MEP or parts of MEP running. Some instances of lingering aspects of a program will not be in the same place on the list as where the program itself appeared. They sometimes appear further down near the Microsoft entries.

Personally I think you broke a registry entry at some point when you were using multiple instances of MEP that is still lingering on the system.

. . . . when I close MEP, it re-launches itself approx 5-6 seconds later . . . .

I have had that happen occasionally - allowing it to fully load, start a new project and waiting a short while, 10 - 15 secs, then closing the second time usually fixed it.

There was no obvious reason why it relaunched, that I could find.

I did watch task manager, it simply showed MEP close (and so fully cleared from task manager), but then 5 seconds later it re-opened itself (and so re-appeared in task manager).

Do you guys know how to FULLY uninstall MEP please?
(As when I have uninstalled it + pressed the reset to factory settings tab on it, when reinstalling, it still has all my old settings stored, so isn't actually a fresh re-install)

But to try fixing this error/bug with MEP's software the only option I seem to now have is to uninstall it fully :: Then reinstall it.

johnebaker wrote on 5/18/2020, 2:50 PM

@Apollo89x

Use Revo Uninstaller to uninstall the program, then carry out the scan you will be prompted to do in Revo and delete the remnants left behind, restart your computer and then re-install.

Exactly which version (patch) is it that you have? The latest?

About 3 weeks ago I went through a similar problem with VPX for almost a week. I would close VPX before shutting down and it would restart, or I would shut down and the next morning it would restart upon booting. I just let it run. If finally stopped doing this. Possibly something to do with the Store database and/or Windows updates.

I doubt that reinstalling will help. Just let it run.

MEP Pro Plus.
Version 19.0.2.58 (UPD3)

I have run registry repair software on my laptop, but that hasn't fixed this bug, so will now try reinstalling (as that appears to be the only hope).

I think that reinstalling will just aggravate the problem that will probably go away once the Store database is fully populated, or something like that. As well, it may be that the background updating has not completed if you shut down your computer shortly after shutting down MEP. Check to see if MEP is still loaded in the Background Processes of the Task Manager before shutting down. If so, then MEP will likely restart upon a reboot.

This morning, VPX loaded automatically on my laptop but not on my desktop. I haven't had it do this for a month or two on the laptop.

You may want to raise a ticket with Magix advising them that your version is causing the automatic restart upon rebooting.

I rarely shut my laptop, merely put it to sleep (and not straight after using MEP).

In regards to 'the store database populating', how long does that typically take, and is there a way to manually force that action?

And do I raise a ticket with Magix via their website?

Hi.

I've found the way to get the quickest replies (up to four days) is via my account at Magix.

The other problem may well depend on your internet speeds. I'm not suffering that particular problem at all. I did suffer when they first released that way of doing things but with the last revision of MEP it stopped happening on my machine. I don't understand why that should happen at all as all the relevant files appear to be on my hard drives anyway.

Hi

. . . . I rarely shut my laptop, merely put it to sleep . . . .

Sleep mode should only be used when you are going to be away from the laptop for a short periods eg to eat or drink.

Good practice is to do a normal shutdown at least once per day and a hard restart once every 1 to 2 weeks to ensure drivers and programs are reloaded from scratch.

A normal shutdown is similar to Sleep except that the program and Windows states are saved to the hard drive and reloaded on a fresh start.

Sleep saves less data about the machine state and puts the laptop into low power consumption mode, programs and data are still held in memory and this may be part of the number of issues you have with the software..

. . . . In regards to 'the store database populating', how long does that typically take, and is there a way to manually force that action? . . . .

Depending on the spec of your laptop it could take up to 15 - 20 mins to complete the first time.

The action cannot be forced - it will take its time as the program compares and updates what is in the Store with what is cached on the laptop.
