How to turn off backup copies completely

Running Movie Edit Pro Plus 2019 version 18.03.261 on Windows 10 2018. Have Intel Core i7 processor on laptop. Movie Edit Pro Plus is putting back up copies all over my desktop and its crowding out the stuff I want to keep on my desktop. Already unchecked the "save project automatically" button under the system tab in File-Settings and its still flooding my desktop with backup copies. I want to completely turn off backup copies or at least figure out a way to stop saving so many. I realize the risk of losing some of my work but I figure if I can't remember to save my work regularly than the penalty will be redoing the editing work. Please provide a specific solution as to how to turn off backup copies so I can have my desktop back. Also, I prefer not to send to another folder either as I want to preserve my disk space. Thank you!

@Earl-Soldier

Hi

The best advice and the solution is to move your project files and any other files you have on your desktop to the Documents folder which is where they should be for the following reason - the Documents folder is a 'protected folder' that is safe from the effects of any Windows update making any changes to its content.

In the event of an update making changes to or creating a new desktop or making changes to the users profile it is possible to lose all documents that are stored on the desktop - the desktop is considered a 'disposable item' as far as Windows is concerned.

Many people store documents on the desktop for ease of access - this is not the correct way to do this - the document should be in the Documents folder - you can create shortcuts to those documents and put them on the desktop.

I have seen too many people lose a year or mores work because desktop corruption and having no backups, nor could the network backup systems back them up.

Project backup files do not take up much disc space, they do not contain the video, audio or images used in the project. They are a set of instructions telling the program what files are on the timeline and effects etc are applied and the settings of the project. There is a maximum number of 10 backups created per project by the program, these are then recycled in order of oldest first
