Does anyone know if Vegas is developed and/or "maintained" by different people than the MEP series? I understand that Magix "owns" the Vegas line but just curious if it is still maintained by the original developers. It seems like, in the two years or so, that I have been using MEP, the fixes and features added seem to be very minor and slow to come.

I downloaded a Trial of Vegas Pro 16 and it seems to be pretty nice. Looking at the features that are new in 16 and the difference between the "edit" and full version, it does seem like there is a significant upgrade of features from MEP, and it doesn't seem to suffer the effect animation problem with the radial blur and gleam type effects like MEP currently does.

I guess it's really a no brainer at $25...

browj2 wrote on 12/13/2018, 10:56 AM

@jaslan

Yes, the Vegas team is in the USA and Magix brought on board probably most of the development team that was with Sony. MEP and VPX are done in Germany.

Movie Edit Pro and Vegas Pro are not equivalent. MEP and Vegas Movie Studio are at about the same level. Video Pro X and Vegas are similar. I use VPX and have the Humble Bundle Vegas 15 Pro Edit. There are things that I do with VPX that either cannot be done by Vegas Pro or are difficult to do. Examples - in VPX we have multi-movie projects, nesting - from within the project, not by bringing in another project. Copy/paste of effects from one object to another - VPX allows selecting which effects are to be copied. It depends on what you are doing. Vegas Pro undoubtedly has some features that would be nice to have in VPX, like scripting, although from what I have seen, it is difficult. However, VPX (and MEP) allows saving effects. VPX works with Xara for animated and static graphical overlays and masks (rotoscoping). VPX (and MEP) has a built-in audio alignment feature; Vegas Pro requires an external program. So, it all depends on what you do with the programs

With the update service for MEP and VPX, it is more difficult to follow the changes as Magix rolls some out every few months. However, there have been many.

I presume that you are referring to HitFilm effects Gleam and Radial Blur. Keyframe for X and Y still go crazy. I presume that Magix is aware of this. Other than that, the effects work in the latest version.

For 25$, you get both Vegas Pro and Movie Studio, so you have alternatives.

Well, I went ahead a got it. The Vegas is definitely an upgrade from MEP. John, I was reading the Vegas Pro manual and saw something in there about nesting projects. Not sure if it is what you were talking about that is available in VPX and not in Vegas (or just doesn't work the same way?). Anyway, pretty good deal.

Is this legit and licensed software that can be activated? How can they sell Vegas Pro Edit 15 plus more for $25 when it goes for $200 on Amazon?

browj2 wrote on 12/22/2018, 12:56 PM

@jaslan

I'm a bit late here, but nesting in Vegas Pro is done by importing a .veg file, meaning a project file, whereas nesting in VPX is done within a project, using a second timeline, aka a movie. VPX and MEP allow multiple movies (timelines) in a project, whereas Vegas does not. Nesting cannot be done in MEP, however.

@ReefHound

Absolutely, this is legit. I have successfully downloaded and installed the Magix and Xara software from several Humble Bundles this year, and I have given some away to friends. When you download and run the Humble Bundle download file, it connects to Magix and downloads and installs the main program, just like the Magix downloaders. They give you a key that successfully unlocks the program with Magix and your Magix account. It then shows up in your Magix account. Magix is fully aware of this and provides the keys to Humble Bundle. Just remember that you are usually getting an out-of-date version and the first thing that you get is an advert to upgrade to the latest version, same as if you had purchased directly through Magix and still had not upgraded. The goal, of course, is to get more Magix users, hoping that they will upgrade now or later.

Get it and activate before it's gone! Only 3 days left.

Hi

Assuming you are referring to the HumbleBundle offer then the answer is yes it is legit. This is a charitable donation by Magix.

All the proceeds from your purchase, through HumbleBundle, are split as you wish and goes to one of the nominated charities you select.

round 2 days more now.

is this better than my Movie Edit Pro ? I guess both are last year's version.

Does Vegas Pro Edit 15 uses my Nvidia HW accelerator ( just an old Nvidia 960) ? I cannot find the VPE15 page, keeps getting me to the VPE16 page.

Vegas Pro 15 Edit is more or the level of Video Pro X; Vegas Movie Studio is at the level of Movie Edit Pro Plus.

For the nVidia card, check out the Vegas forum, I believe that it was mentioned there.

Everyone:

I should have added that HitFilm Movie Essentials works with Vegas as well as MEPP/VPX. I tried it out in MPP, VPX, as well as the version of Vegas Pro 15 Edit that I got with the Humble Bundle.

Saw at the other forum, via another URL, that it does support Nvidia HW acceleration . So I went ahead and purchased it.

I hit my first problem with it, I was not able to activate it.... but the was between the keyboard & the chair... I used that Movie Studio key instead.... So many keys I was lost LOL

Ran out of time...need to do other stuff for this week now

I pulled the trigger at the last minute. Hey, it's only $25. Not sure I'll switch from MEP Premium to Vegas Pro Edit 15 because I'm not sure I want to invest the time into the learning curve but a quick trial shows it is much more powerful.

Anyone else having activation problems with VEGAS Pro 15 Edit? When I install it, it activates / accepts my serial key without issue (green ticks all around). Then when I run the program and try to start editing a video, I get a message that my activation code is incorrect.

I have tried deactivating the program and then reinstalling it but then I encounter the same issue with the activation code. If the activation code was incorrect in the first place, how is it that it has the option to deactivate the software?

I tried going to www.support.magix.net but can't find any way to actually contact someone or log a ticket there.

Hi,

I suggest that you take a look through the Vegas Forum and if you don't find an answer, post there. I had no problem installing, activating and running VP15E,
