I have exceeded the max amount of unlock procedures???

Hi,

I have a licence for MEP17. I installed the software on a new laptop and entered my serial number to activate it and was presented with a message saying "You have exceeded the maximum amount of unlock procedures" and to contact customer support.

I'm not happy about this and just want to install my software I paid a lot of money for, someone please help remove this prompt somehow?

Thank you!

@flanaganuk

All Magix software has a limit on the number of activations that can be used simultaneously. If your version of MEP is literally "MEP 17" this is now quite old (or is it actually MEP 2017?)

For recent versions of the software the limit is 2 concurrent activations. Hence, there is no point at all in expressing here that you are not happy about this, it is a fact of the software licensing system.

However, you can reset the activation permissions yourself: go to your Magix account, log in, go to My Products, find the listing for your software and check the number of activations listed. Deactivate any and all you no longer need or use. Then try again to activate the new install.

Hi

. . . . MEP17. I installed the software on a new laptop . . . .

If your new laptop is running Windows 10, then MEP 17 is not supported. Apart from the issue of registration, the program may also have other issues with the new version of Windows.

It is time to upgrade to a version that will run on Windows 10.

What is your new laptop specification? See this topic for more details of what is required and please quote the processor and graphics card make/model in full.

The requirements of Windows 10 supported versions of MEP are more stringent then the older versions of MEP, so it would also help if you tell us what video resolutions and formats you are working with and may work with in the future.

I've created a new activation code for a new installation but it's asking for "computer ID" in order to create a new code? What would I enter in there?

Markus73 wrote on 5/2/2021, 3:59 AM

As it has already been said: MEP 17 is not supported under Windows 10!

flanaganuk wrote on 5/2/2021, 4:03 AM

So let me get this straight. As a consumer that bought a product that should last a lifetime, irrespective of how many new devices I purchase, because MEP 17 isn't supported by Windows 10, it's now MY obligation to upgrade my Magix product? Forgive me for sounding disgruntled, but that's utterly preposterous, unless I'm still missing something here?

Feel free to use your product as long as you want to, using one of the supported operating systems it is intended for! Who forced you to upgrade to Windows 10?

I'm so confused. The previous laptop was Windows 10 Pro, activated fine. This laptop is WIndows 10 Pro, won't activate??? So all I want, is to SIMPLY figure out a way to activate my purchased software without the unnecessary discussion of "upgrading".

Markus73 wrote on 5/2/2021, 4:15 AM

As far as I know, the old P2-numbers can't be activated any longer. So it might have worked by chance on your last Win 10 (or let's say: you might not have noticed all related issues), although this software has never been designed to run under Win 10.

By the way: Why don't you just contact customer support as you are told to?

Well it definitely did work on multiple Windows 10 devices prior to this one. So, judging from the prompt I received, I assumed it was just a message saying I've installed it too many times, nothing to do with the operating system.

So, what would be the best solution to remedy this? Because I really don't want to pay money for something I think should be working.

I repeat: Use an operating system that is supported by your very old software (in that case: contact customer support that might be able to reset the installation counter). Or: Buy a new version that supports your current operating system.

That's ridiculous. I'm being penalised for having "really old software" which clearly works on Windows 10 - I repeat, the message is clearly indicative to multiple activation attempts, NOTHING to do with operating systems.

I've got a project that I've worked on for years, and you're telling me it's just gone, because I didn't keep up to date? Nonsense, this software should work.

Feel free to contact customer support, this here is a user forum. I'll close this thread.

Hi

. . . . Well it definitely did work on multiple Windows 10 devices prior to this one. . . . .

It may well have done if the computer was upgraded from Windows 7 or 8 to Windows 10, however the issue now is you have, in effect, a clean install of Windows 10, and the program has been installed on this clean version of Windows 10 the issue.

. . . . but that's utterly preposterous, unless I'm still missing something here . . .

The issue is primarily caused by Microsoft, not Magix. A lot of old software is not compatible with Windows 10 and is now redundant.

In addition software tends to go out of support when it has been superseded by several newer versions - in the case of MEP 17 it has been superseded by 10 newer versions and is well out of support, and was only certified to run on an OS that is also end of life and no longer supported by Microsoft.

Hi.

You confuse the term 'lifetime Guarantee' to mean the 'lifetime of the user' rather than the legal contractual meaning of the 'lifetime of the product against workmanship defects for the use of which it was designed'. IE an earlier version of Windows. If you can get it to work under a new operating system that is a bonus rather than a contractual right.

Often due to the demands of new operating system on older software that was not designed to work on the same formatting of drives or with various drivers needed to give output to your screen or audio system, the older version of the program would have to be rewritten to work correctly. This is why software and operating systems are constantly being rewritten to keep up with changing hardware technologies.

So while an old copy will often but not always work on the operating system it was not designed for it is also not often compatible with newer hardware or operating systems.

The other thing that may be causing a problem here is the internet no longer works the way it did when you bought your copy of Movie Edit Pro and may not be able to correctly connect to the servers needed to activate the program.

Ray.
